I totally agree with that!! They must go out and have to score the hounds during the day to know which one was best!!NeilKimbrel7 wrote:I guess gun hunters don't know what the best dog in their pack is....without a diffinitive scoring system and all. Lmao

Blue collar picks up a check, Red collar swings wide and pulls pack, Green Collar holds a line while Red swings out, White is me tooing in the back.
What dogs have "score", Blue and Green. Not that hard to understand, but I want to do my best to see what is happening. I like to know where my hound may be positioned.
Just an example.
yea it aint hard to understand there but what kinda points do you have there!!!!!!!! nothing there to tell you what each dog just recieved point wise!!! everyone else wants to see whsat there hound is doing, i mean what man goes to a trial to sit on a tailgate and listen to what is going on... i men come on man do ya really think everyone just goes and dont pay attention to what there hound is doing, really man come on!!! and yea if a hound is not contributing it should be picked up.. just stating the ovbious NO POINT SYSTEM to let ya know whats going on and where your hound is at the current time in the hunt!!! ex you get a strike/jump 40 pts you get 4 checks 25pts each now u got 140 pts u know everyone else has to have more than 140 pts to beat you in a cast or the finals!!!!
Re: Akc vs LP hunts
I don't think anything good can come of bashing the two formats back and forth. This discussion has been brought up before and always ends the same way. But here is a link to the AKC rule book for SPO (most Midwest trials are small pack option). It is pretty straight forward about what is to be considered positive and what is to be considered negative, or a demerit. If people would just read the rule book, and watch what their hound does during a trial they should have a pretty good idea where said dog will end up that day. It's not that complicated. Why would you run a dog in a trial without first knowing the rules? The people that do this are always the one saying they got cheated, screwed, etc.!

NO i'd say EVERY man here or anywhere else knows who his/her best hound is by far!!! point being made ive ran both divisions and the lp does let you know where you stand point wise the akc did not, shoot maybe im missing something here!!!! but lets take your example about ball here for a minute lets say 2 basketball teams were playing no score was being kept on each player or of the 2 teams how do you determine who the MVP was or who won the game!! i guess they just say ol jim bob is mvp and the team in blue won the game it looks like they scored more anyway lmao!!!! just saying!!!!!!!!

Re: Akc vs LP hunts
Why does it need to be in a point value?? Check +1 drive +1 reaching -1 babbling-1 over running -1= -1 there is not point value just plus and minus for AKC no reason to add point value, follow the hounds around and if you see your hound scoring then chances are you will go back out!! People never wanna ask why they got picked up or why they didn't go back out and then they get mad and claim foul play or someone doesn't like them or didn't know them!!! More crying!! If you wanna know how your hound did don't be afraid to ask!!! There is no rule that the judge can't tell you its just up to them if they want to discuss it with you. Most judges will tell you what happened if you don't know or can't figure out without scoring with points.east80kennels wrote:BCBeagles wrote:Why does it have to be "scored" can you not watch the race and see what dogs contribute to the race the most? East80 the reference to the basketball or baseball was on the titles and similar running not scoring maybe that's why you can't figure out scoring without a point value!

I like both formats as well as a couple others so I definately don't want to come off that one is right or wrong. However, Akc does keep score. It is written down. After the hunt you can ask the judge what they had on your dog and they will show you.

I love both mid west an lp. What I do like more about mid west is at the end of the day there's a lot less room of a faulty dog beating you threw a loop hole in a misinterpreted scoring process. I've seen dogs win on just 3 little barks. But in mid west I always feel my dog has gotten a good look no matter how I fair to me it just takes some of the luck out of it. But I'm not bashing I love lp I've seen an ran against some amazing hounds an feel when you get a good judge that its as good of a format as any for bringing back the right dog

maybe they just need to call everyone together like lp and tell everyone then! lp judges will call everyone over to the side and explain ok men here is what we got we got the blue collar with 4 checks and a strike and the red colar withe a strike and 2 checks and the green collar with 2 checks and the orange with 1 check. that is a example for ya, if the akc goes by +'s -'s then you know they should do the same with there judges per hound that way noone is left clueless and in the dark!!

Re: Akc vs LP hunts
East80 they don't do that because there is no time limit to run, they could run 1 hour or 3 hours on 1 pack heck they could run 20 mins if they get enough score and see what hound is doing the work. Also there is no point value because AKC can take 0 dogs or all dogs from 1 pack there is a scoring system just not a point system. If you want to know "like I said previously" go ask the judge what he had on your hound, he doesn't have to tell you but most judges will. Its tuff on days with a lot of dogs for a judge to tell you if your going back out or not because there is so many dogs to look at but chances are if your the top dog in your pack you will go back out so watch your hound work and you should know!!! I have been to a trial and knew my dog wasn't doing well so I didn't need point system to tell me I was done.

right, i know if my hound is doing his/her part in a race and every man or woman also knows, just makes more sense to have the judges call everyone to the side and inform everyone what they got whos moving on and so on. weather its points, +'s, -'s or what ever!!!

Re: Akc vs LP hunts
After the first series is over the judges go to lunch and the judges talk together, who they want back. That's a great time to ask what your dog did or not do if he/she isn't called back.
