I give my hounds the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys and have for years...never had a problem except over the years I've noticed that I need to get the rabbits before the dogs do.

I wont let my foxes, coyotes, or bobcats go near a dead rabbit! feed it to your dog if you want to, you couldn't haul all of the dead mice and rabbits he has eaten over the years. worm him when you see that he needs it!

Re: Rabbit Hearts and Livers
WE have always twisted off the rabbits head and fed it to the dogs while in the woods. Never gave more than one to each dog though while hunting but gave all heads to them at end of day at home. Gutted rabbits at end of hunt and slung them out on ground for the dogs to eat. Same thing they ate when they caught one so why not.
Never had a problem.
Coyotes and foxes eat everything including hair. Look at their poop and see how much hair is in it that didn't digest.

I like to give a young pup it's first taste of blood by giving them the liver. I think it gives them an incentive.

I am a retired USDA meat and poultry inspector that spent 30 years looking at guts as well as thousands of carcasses being slaughtered in meat and poultry slaughter plants throughout the U.S. What most consumers do not know is that each and every meat and poultry animal slaughtered under USDA inspection has had the hands of an individual Federal inspector upon it during the slaughter process. We used to call it puddlling guts.adirondackjoe wrote:warddog

By the way what do folks sup[pose happens to ALL the carcasses, guts, bones and feathers that do NOT go into the human food chain? Thousands upon thousands pounds of such stuff goes somewhere each and every day these meat and poultry processing plants operate! I guarantee you they do NOT go to land fills.

Re: Rabbit Hearts and Livers
Cant be no worse than them turning around and eating their own turds..............Just saying.
Re: Rabbit Hearts and Livers
YES, I still eat meat and poultry BUT I learned to cook the crap out of it. I used to love rare hamburger but not in 30+ years. I will also say that I was an inspector for 3 years in the U.S. Army and inspected everything from Apples to Zucchini and I can say there just as many bad things in other foods as there are in meat and poultry. It never ceased to amaze me how BIG food producers did so like they were building a car on an assembly line.
