In what format?

I know there was a dog in UKC that made dual Grand before the age of 1 year old.

I was told a dog in PP made Grand after only being entered in 10-15 hunts.....Smooth Running Buck was the dogs name....I think.

The fastest that I have ever seen in LP is 3 hunts. Mitchell's Big Red won his first regular hunt in the champion class, followed by wins in the Louisiana State Championship and the North American Championship.

This was around 3 years ago. The dog was sold and never competed in the Grand Class that I am aware of. Very nice hound.

Swing,
My Tom Boy dog certified from open to Champ in December 2001, and made Grand in December 2002.

That would be 12 months from open to Grand. I'll bet there are others who made it faster, though.

I remember a grade male that was 8 (!) yr. old that went from champ to grand in the min. 5 club hunts. He competed against the Weedeater kennel hounds, Licking River hounds, and some pretty good competition. Johnny Williams had him. I'm sure the hound is dead now, but his name was Lefty. He was tough to say the least. I had a male out of him that I wish I had back. I sold him because he was way too TIGHT. He was a top-ntoch hound in every other sense of the word, but that was during the days that I just had to have a trial hound. Chad Blair remembers Lefty, I'm sure. Johnny lives somewhere between Paintsville and West Liberty, Ky now and has hounds out of him still.

Hey Ramey,
Yeah I remember Ol Lefty, he was a rabbit dawg in ever sense. I can still hear that big booming bawl mouth of his. He was a tough hound in the trials at even an old age. I used to run my old steel dog with lefty when John and I both still lived back in eastern ky. I doubt he is still living too, I even got ol steel still Ramey, hes 10 yrs old now, boy I hate to see good dogs get old...he was a good hound in his hayday too. I havent talked to Johnny in a long time, hes probably still got dogs out of Lefty.

Swing,
I guess I should have been more clear. The dog made champion, then ran only three hunts in the Champion class before making Grand.
Dog needs 5 wins in Champion Class to make grand.(Big hunts count as three wins).
Regular hunt - 1
State Hunt - 3
North American Hunt - 3

Trent,

My Wendy(out of McCleese's Duck) female that you saw run against Skim years ago, went from open through the champions to grand in 4 months getting 5 wins from 5 different clubs. She still rates as my best hound ever to date.

I ran in the finals at the north american in Louisiana against that Mitchells Big Red dog and it was a close race Gabe Stockton judged the cast Mitchells Big Red won, I finished 2nd with Surber's R.C. Red and Jerry Livermore's dog finished 3rd dont know the name of the dog he had in the cast but it was a close race and that is a nice big red male.
