Ol Butkus will reproduce a well above average hound in
all areas. I have seen enough Butkus pups to know.
No matter what female, really?
I'm sorry, but that is an asinine statement.

Fact, I have a friend that I run with a lot that had two Butkus males out of different females (neither from Joe), one was the biggest POS I have seen in a long time and the other is average.
The POS was culled and he still has the other.

IMO, it takes two quality hounds to produce quality hounds.
I'll guarantee if you ask Joe, he does not breed just any female in his kennel to his FC males.
He breeds his quality FC females to his quality FC males.

There are culls in ALL "lines".

How many IFC's you got to put out there, then sell to be a "line"?

Shooter,Butkus, Paw King. That is three generations right there. That doesn't happen in a 3 year span.
Many other quality FC's with Shooter/and or other beginnings.

When is it a "line"? Green Bay represents a certain type of hound. Joe K. has a standard and adheres to it. He selectively "picks" the right compliment and or additive to his hounds and boom another FC or IFC. He has the resources and the knowledge to stay on the podium, regardless how the hounds lineage goes. He is true houndsman and knows the quality to continue to be successful.

I call that a line regardless of his outcrosses, IMO. They suit some and not others, if that were not he case we would all run one...."line".....

No offense intended just thinking outloud.

Green Bay hounds are quality hounds. Biggest question many houndsmen tend to forget (this question is actually towards many successful hunting/field trial beagle breeder out there): Is it the mind set of the man that makes the hounds? or is he just lucky to have and breed quality big name hounds year after year?

I forgot about all the cocked guns on here just waiting
to put words in someone's mouth LOL

No matter what female was bred to Butkus that I have
seen you you could see traits that closely resembles what
You see when you hunt with Butkus
And that's all I ment by my statement

Sorry your pups didn't turn out some people
need to buy finished dogs instead of pups

Don't know how I put words in your mouth, it was a direct quote from your post.

I said my friend, not me. So who is putting words in whos mouth?
Also, the one that was a POS, was actually taken to Joe to start in his pen.
But like I said, Joe is a friend and has top quality hounds. Neither one was of Joe's breedings, just out of Butkus that my friend bought from another breeder.

It is amazing lately how some people spout rediculous statements, then when called out on it, try to insult the people who calls them out.
I said your statement was asinine and stand by it, twist it around however you wish.

Yang,
Good point, I don't believe (as I'm sure you don't neither) producing quality hounds consistently has anything to do with luck. ;)

I've been lucky enough to watch Shooter run. My favorite memory of Shooter was when he was ran in a rain storm. It was him, FC Wookie, FC Larsen Jackson, FWR, Dirty Pond Tangeree, and a bitch named Fagan's Cotton Candy, Tang's Sister Dirty Pond Beauty, and a bitch he called Lauren. Shooter was the anchor dog that seemed to always find those tough checks. To me he was like Macgyver, always getting out of sticky situations. Adam Seger and I ran these dogs around a beaver pond, mind you it had been raining for a week and this coal mine ground was flooded with water that would go past your ankles. The dogs lit a fire under this rabbit and the running was balls to the walls. All the dogs did their part, but Shooter being the smallest one there seemed to get his share of the front.

I have gotten to see a lot of good & great bitches out of Shooter run. I liked when Adam crossed Shooter with a Striker bitches. They were all solid in all areas, but the best feature was track dogs. They would turn on a 90 like it was nothing. Shooter threw a lot of good dogs with good foot. Never seen Butkus run, but heard both good and bad things. The only bad thing I seem in shooter was his size, but he had a heart the size of a dump truck.

I feel bad for people who own IFC or FC stud dogs, cause they will always hear the nagging and complaining of people who didn't get what they wanted. I'm very surprised how people are so quick to blame the studs for their lack of dog power. I also find it funny that a lot of people on here have said in the past that pups get their traits from their mother. But quick to blame the stud if they don't get what they want.... I remember talking to Adam, he said when a car pulled up Shooter would get all excited since everyone was breeding to him and he figured he was gonna get him some lol. Just like any big name stud dog, your get junky bitches bred to them. Breed quality to quality and you should get quality...

I don't own a shooter dog or any Green Bay dogs. I never jumped on a shooter dog when given a chance. My fault. I'm just saying most times big name studs always get blamed for a bad pup or two.

I'm just stating an opinion and not pointing any fingers toward anyone on this thread, just what I've been noticing over the past few years.

Have a good night.

the old Mt State hounds that came from Murphys Buddy were big nosed later Bernard out crossed several times to get what he wanted usually with good results. He was a good friend and knew a good hound. Really miss talking to him he was the best kind. All that knew him miss him.I have had hounds from shooter and ranger dan wingates brandon and dogs that made murphys buddy. The buddy stuff was as big nosed as i ever seen could cold trail but flat run when nothing else could get a bark on a marked line.

I have liked both of my females. My 2nd one was running at 4 months old and doing it right. She hates a rabbit. Here is a pic at 4 months old.

I think Jim has a littler mate to my female in the above pic, if I remember right. I'm waiting on her to get old enought to raise a littler for my self. I would have raised a litter out if my first female but she was stolen while hunting.

Jason,

My good friend Lowell Smith now has him, can't keep them all.

He is making the "right kind" as Lowell likes to say. Nice young hound.

They are out of Butkus and a Jasper female they cross worked out pretty nicely so far.
