Another nightmare year for fleas
im not sure but i think fleas around my dog kennel could withstand a nuclear explosion. Just this evening i dipped all my dogs w happy jack kennel dip and sprayed them down. Proceeded to spray two containers of malathon, a sprayer full of bayer advanced and two sprayers full of permithen in and around my barn where i keep my dogs. sprayed floors and doghouses and under kennels. even after all this i look down and my socks and legs r covered in fleas!!!! im so agravated i cant stand it . im about to finish up my new dog kennel in the next week or two and hopefully i dont fight them as bad in the new location but good grief am i the only one with super fleas? i cant kill em. ive tried just about everything listed on this site and they still infest my kennel?

Re: Another nightmare year for fleas
I've had a terrible year, I think it's location based to. My female that is in the house has had them the entire 2nd half of the summer, I have a fence attached to my house so she can go out into the yard whenever. I've tried everything. I've hit the yard with sevin dust twice, liquid sprayed the yard twice, kennel dipped the dog a few times, frontline plus, flea collars, put dust on the dog, bombed the house. No effect. Just had to bath her again last night, flea shampoo won't even kill them, I've had to start using Dawn dish soap when I bath her to kill them. My buddy that lives down the road told me the only way he finally got them was when he put garden lyme on his entire yard, apparently it dries the eggs out?bluecollar beagler wrote:im not sure but i think fleas around my dog kennel could withstand a nuclear explosion. Anyway, I have two males on the ground at my parents, and they don't have a single flea on them, and haven't for 4.5 years.

i have three of the dogs off the ground and they still have them. i was told to spread ajax on the ground and it would kill them too. i have 5 bags left of lime im throwing down tonight on the entire area of my barn in hopes of killing a few more. hopefully a company comes out w something nasty enough to kill these things bc everything ive tried so far has been a waste of time and money.

Re: Another nightmare year for fleas
Up here in Northeast Missouri the fleas wait for you to use seven dust, kennel dip or whatever. they just feed off of it I believe. Everyone I have talked to up in this area is having trouble with them. I have a small housedog that gets treated every month with Frontline Plus and have use some of the best flea shampoo out there and I believe the fleas our attracted to it. Finally I shaved her down to darn near to her skin and hand picked them off of her. I have tried everything on her. the only reason my grass is growing is because of how many times I have sprayed the yard for fleas because I think our last rain up here was July 4th. I am still a believer if farmers would still burn off their land like they use to we would have less insects. I am ready for cold weather maybe that will send them down a little deeper.
Re: Another nightmare year for fleas
I have had beagles for 38 years and never had a problem with fleas. I only use cedar shavings for the bedding, and don't use any flea powder.

Re: Another nightmare year for fleas
all my dog kennels are covered in cedar shavings. Makes it easy to scoop up the poo so that isnt helping. i spread the lime tonight. they covered me. i went as far to grab my sprayer and spray my shoes and socks and my ankles in the pesticide and THEY WERE STILL JUMPING ON ME and crawling on my feet . lol. i even rubbed lime all over my legs . the happy jack bath seemed to work though. Checked the dogs and they were alot better off. there still there though! im hoping to get the roof on my new kennel this weekend so hopefully by next week i can move them. ive just about give up. Ive pulled all my hair out.gonna fight em till i can move the dogs i guess

Re: Another nightmare year for fleas
bluemouse i ordered a bottle of viper today after reading up on it. Amazon had it for 23.50 for a 16 oz bottle so ill give it a shot. thanks for the input.
Re: Another nightmare year for fleas
I keep cedar shaving in all my houses . Usually it works but not this year. Someone told me to put a little seven dust with the shavings and I have seen a little relief but this year is different then any year I have ever seen. Usually I can put frontline Plus on the dogs and have no trouble with fleas or ticks but this year the fleas just keep on coming. I am going to go out and buy some lime and try the viper Product. whats another 100.00 dollars trying to beat these pest.
Re: Another nightmare year for fleas
you might also try green walnut leves. the small end of the branch with lots of leves. must be green. my uncle used in his hog house.
