Sorry to hear of this Jim. I've been to the U.P. several different years and although I had heard about this happening, never though too much about it until last Oct. a pack of wolves eat a young male I had. I doubt very seriously I be going back.

I am sorry for your loss... That is a terrible tragedy. I am honestly surprised they killed so many at once. That is not normal wolf behavior at all from all the things I have read... Here is another attack pic and story that is almost 100 percent IDENTICAL to your hound. It even looks like your hound although you can tell it is not.

They normally isolate one individual and wear it out taking it away form the pack instead of doing it yote style. The fact they had time to pack devour that one animal you posted is interesting. How long after the yotes came in on you was that pic taken? It would take a significant amount of time to do that much damage on a carcass by one animal and looks like the whole pack helped eat that one..

Maybe if you gathered up all the dogs and took pics of all nine together and posted them to the news papers and tv it would go along way to opening up a season on them but just because they attack does not mean we should extirpate them IMO...

What happened to JCM is WELL within the behavior for WOLVES ( this wasn't done by yotes) .....don't let anyone tell you otherwise! They are territorial and will not tolerate dogs...or even other wolves that stray into another's area. It's a numbers game and if you and your hound(s) are in the wrong place at the wrong time.....it's not gonna end well.

if they kill your dogs there should be no fine...i go to jail for killing them in some places how come they aren't punished for their crimes. Sorry for your loss i couldn't imagine walking up on a scene like that

Man that's just horrible sorry for your loss Jim and for the loss of your father and friends hounds as well. It amazes me the stupid things our natural resources people do releasing wolves into an eco system that has otherwise sustained itself for years without them.

What is the fine or punishment for killing a wolf out of season,or out of the correct hunting area ? if one was to get caught.

Now that the wolf is off the endangered species list you can protect yourself pets and livestock anywhere if a wolf is doing harm.

u can shot and kill any wolf coming in on the pack of hounds. u cant remove it and the dnr would like for u to call. so at least u can defend your hounds if u are close enough. there is 3 packs in the up that are causing problems. thos are the ones they are going to release tags for hunting.
