Here is my take on the 3/4 crossess. I do have one and she is a fine dog that produces better than she is. The only problem is line breeding in the future to the same bloodlines. When you do a 3/4 cross you are basically breeding yourself into a corner. I am fortunate to have this female and for the future glad she is bred the way she is bred. But it does limit on going back on the father side. Not worried about crazy acting dogs or conformation problems. The concern goes into areas of inbreeding coeeficients on fertility. The tighter you go you run the risk of animals loosing their fertility.
I would still make the cross if you consider it bettering the breed.

I know I am not a regular on here but I recently read an outstanding book on this subject. The New Art of Breeding Better dogs by Kyle Onstott. I got it used off of Amazon for $5. It not only talks about dogs but goes into genetics of why things occur. I really found it enlightening and eye opening. Wild animals don't worry about breeding to family members. The only difference is that mother nature culls ruthlessly and the law of natural selection is in effect so the substandard induividuals die.
If you are willing to keep the whole litter and are not afraid to cull there is no reason not to make the mating. No new traits or weaknesses are going to be created, just going to bring what exists to the surface and intensify it. Cull off the poor ones and keep going.

Breeding
I am not much of a breeder, however I raise patch hounds now and would like to keep the style of hounds i have tight. I will breed Grandfather/granddaughter, aunt/newphew etc. I now guys that breed closer some examples are the squirrel hunter and their Mt. curs. I am not one to cull as fast as most. I have to keep my wife out of my kennels. She will fall in love with every pup there and after that I cant dream of culling.
Good luck
