new garmin alpha and small dogs?
Do any of you guys have the new garmin alpha and run small beagles. Under 13" size. I was thinking of upgrading to the new system but then i got to thinking a bout trying to get a collar to fit my little female. With the dc 40 i have to tighten it up to the last hole on the collar and it still isnt real tight on her.
Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?
It will still be about the same for the smaller dogs. I am running them on some 14" females and they fit ok. I do like the new set up and it works good. It does take some time to figure it all out.
Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?
I just bought one of the Garmin Alphas today....I held it up next to my old DC30 collar and they are the same size when they are both on the last hole. I think my dogs will game a couple miles an hour on their chases this year with all the weight savings of that collar over the DC30 and Trashbreaker collar they used to wear.

Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?
Are you guys happy with the alpha so far?
Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?
Yes. Glad Garmin bought tri tonics so tri tronics could make things better. They went back to the dc30 style satellite antenna so you don't lose signal like the dc40. My dc30 collars were much better than the dc40 I tried. The lights on the collar are also great for night running.
Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?
it is a little loose on my young 13' female but she is small. i suspect there are gonna be some other people running into the same problemother 5 dogs it fits fine

Are the new garmin alpha collars lighter & smaller than the DC 30's?

No....they weigh pretty much the same and are very close to the same size.
Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?

Boys, how quick can you correct a dog with this system? is it fast enough to access the shock for all of the crazy situations that arise in beagles?

NoShow have you checked out the shocking range on your system and does it still shock with radio freq. or GPS signal?

You can shock or tone 3 dogs pretty quick. There is 1 button for tone, 1 for momentary, 1 for continuous shock. You have to set up the level of intensity for the shock so it does require a little time to set everything up. After that all you have to do is hit the button. I have not checked the range yet.

Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?
My buddy just pick the new alph system up this past weekend and i got to play with it some. Looks like it will be nice once we get used to using it. The controls are alot different than my 220. I also checked the collar size seems to me that it will go small enough to fit on my little female. She is in th 11" to 12" size and i usually have to make extra holes on the smallest size collars to fit her.

Re: new garmin alpha and small dogs?
I am loving the alpha, It had to move some things around on the collar to get it to fit my 1 year old female 13" beagle. There is a long part on the collar that can be scrunched up if needed. I only have one collar and I use it on my very large cur mix and then on my beagle as well. there are 18 different levels of correction. The beagle gets about a 2, the cur gets about 8 unless he is on a hog I have to turn it up to get him to break off the ear..
I have had to correct the beagle about three times and she now stops when she hears the "tone". The cur can be running a hog wide open and hear the tone and he breaks off of the trail now.. It didnt take either of them long to lear what was coming after the beep... I keep the collar by my kennel and at night if they are barking and such I can tone it and they stop.. lol

Lions country sales a smaller collar for t100 that work good for small beagles. As for the shock collar and range I hit a dog at almost 1.6 mile away barking in boxes coon hunting.i love the system and when u get used to it, it easy to use
