flat creek
anyone got any info on flat creek hounds like speed n line control also color n height and are they hard hunting hounds jb
If you have any of the Flat Creek hounds out of Wright's Shake they should be 13" hard hunting hounds, tri -colors, speed depends on what they are crossed with. That Flat Creek Joshua and Flat Creek Blake are good dogs, if you get one close to them with a nice bottom end take em,especially if they are crossed with some Stubby blood, some dynomite jump dogs.....Good med to med-fast, that can hold on to a rabbit...
Back in the day there were some good Flat Creek hounds. Bill Wright owned Shake & Blake, Fronheiser had Josh and ZT had Danny.
Those hounds had good hunt & decent speed and more importantly good dispositions.
I owned a little male directly off of Blake that was a great little dog. I don't know what happened to the Flat Creek line over the years but you couldn't give me a dog from that line now.
I've tried & owned at least 6-8 flat creek bred hounds in the last 2-3 years and didn't keep any of them. The hunt isn't there anymore and that line has produced some of the most skiddish whimpy acting dogs that I've ever seen. Last year I watched Bill Wright handle 4 different dogs at 2 different trials and ALL acted like shy idiots. Those dogs held up casts because Bill and the Marshalls couldn't pick them up because of shyness.

you can take a kid out of the country, but you cant take the country out of a kid
Brinsky's Tank is IMO the best Flat Creek bred male ever. His record in trials and reproduction speaks for itself. Dan is also a class act and a heck of a guy and judge.
I owned a nice little female off of Tank. She was one of the best little hounds I ever owned. She had good hunt, speed, line control AND had a super disposition. Unfortunately she had a real hard time during pregancy and died welping pups.
I'd own another off of Tank.

I owned a female directly out of FC Flat Creek Joshua. I sold her to a friend who still has her. Heck I shot a rabbit over her this evening as we hunted together.
She hunts like a banshee and can hold a good line. Faults I see...cold trails too much for my personal liking and doesnt have enough foot. I prefer run-to-catch hounds and my Patch bred hounds will pull away and dust her as she is a flat medium speed. If you like medium speed dogs, Josh throws some fine hounds, eat up with hunt too. Like I said, I've seen a cold-trailing tendency in Josh pups...just my experiences. Medium-fast has been tagged alot in this thread....I've seen several Tank/Joshua pups run in trials and owned one and a buddy owns a couple....never saw medium-fast in any of them. I'd give the ones I saw a 5 on speed...may rarely step up to a 6 on a good scenting day, but never higher. Then again speed is a relative term that obviously varies very much from one person to another
