Garmin alpha
Thinking about a new alpha, I know they will fit on beagles but the box looks to deep. Looks like it would tear the beagles legs up. Is anybody having this problem. I would like to hear from somebody that runs a few times a week because I feel they would be fine if I only ran one time a week but I go three to four times a week.
Any feed back would be appreciated

Re: Garmin alpha
Mine have been fine. I did get the smaller collars from lion country supply so they could fit tighter.
Re: Garmin alpha
I run about 3 times a week. Mine have been fine so far.

Re: Garmin alpha
I run 2-4 times a week and have two smaller type beagles and have not had a problem with the collars. Great investment!

Re: Garmin alpha
Bout the same as my tri tronics. It dont hurt most of em, but u always seem to have a dog that beats his knees. I believe Its more his stride than anything.

Re: Garmin alpha
I had several dogs hitting knees to extent of making sores.
If I agreed with you then we'd both be wrong.

Re: Garmin alpha
I have the 320 dc 40s with tt shockers on the same collars, thought about selling/trading to the Alpha system but the thing is the Alpha does not have changeable batteries which at first seems good but then I am not sure how long it will stay charged running 7-10 dogs,If it goes down on you then you can't see them or tone/shock them where as if the battery goes down on the 320 I just change and keep going.Batteries were an issue at first a new set might last a full day and that was getting expensive,I found some sanyo enloop rechargeable batteries that fixed that problem though. Can get a couple of hunts out of a fresh charge and I keep 6 with me all the times. So I have decided that the two systems work better for me.

The alpha hand held does have changeable batteries. You change them by opening a hatch on the back side of the hand held.ARUSH70HALF wrote:I have the 320 dc 40s with tt shockers on the same collars, thought about selling/trading to the Alpha system but the thing is the Alpha does not have changeable batteries which at first seems good but then I am not sure how long it will stay charged running 7-10 dogs,If it goes down on you then you can't see them or tone/shock them where as if the battery goes down on the 320 I just change and keep going.Batteries were an issue at first a new set might last a full day and that was getting expensive,I found some sanyo enloop rechargeable batteries that fixed that problem though. Can get a couple of hunts out of a fresh charge and I keep 6 with me all the times. So I have decided that the two systems work better for me.
Here's a quote from lion country supply's website:
"The sturdy spine on the back of the Alpha handheld adds significantly to the durability of the unit and a connection for numerous additional Garmin accessories. Access to the battery compartment is easy. The Alpha is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery that provides up to 20 hours per charge. Handheld batteries are compact, easily “field replaceable”, and sold separately so you can carry a backup in the field."

Re: Garmin alpha
My smallest is 12.5". She was the worst affected to the extent I had to quit running it on her. Two others it affected were 13". Also have 1 male that is 14.5" that hits a knee. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make the receiver less boxy and maybe make up for it by being longer and maybe curved. Doesn't seem like Garmin had beagles in mind when they designed these. As usualParker7 wrote:What size dogs do you run?Swamper AR wrote:I had several dogs hitting knees to extent of making sores.

Re: Garmin alpha
Thanks for the feed back Swamper AR. Anybody else having problems? I know theirs a lot of guys running the alpha can we get some more feed back? Good or bad.
Re: Garmin alpha
I've had the Alpha for 5 months or so and no issues at all....even my smallest 13" female doesn't have an issue with it. I've seen a lot of dogs have issues even with just a DC30, a lot of it is their stride or how crooked their legs are.

Re: Garmin alpha
My bad,,, did not know the battery was changeable on the Alpha, I guess for 37.00 you could keep a spare with you just in case.As I said I run the dc40 and tt on a single collar,I've got dogs for 13 to 15in and have very little problems with them hitting as long as I put the garmin and tt collar up close to there head and I have a regular collar with name plate behind it.f I do this in reverse it will beat on there feet some.
