female won't come in heat, any ideas

Post by baj »

I have a female that has just turned 3 yrs old and has only been in heat one time. It has been a little over 14 months since she has been in heat. Anyone got any ideas why? or any suggestions to bring her in heat. She is an excellent dog, her sire is Greenbay Shooter and her mother is a solid rabbit hound, i sure would love to raise some pups out of her. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
baj

i had never heard of that before, but it's worth a try. I have her kenneled next to one of my males with just wire to separate them and that hasn't helped so i will try your idea.
Thanks

Kennel her or keep next to a gyp that is in heat or tends to be regular with her heat cycle. Seems like once 1 female comes in season, they all do.

I have seen this work, and another thing that may work is to let her sit and fatten her up some. I have seen a lot of females get very off with their cycles when running them hard

Just had this happen with one of my females, hadnt been in heat for 15 months and she had a injury and had to lay her up for a month or so. She put on a couple pounds and just came in heat 3 days ago. Not sure if thats the reason or not but she will be bred in 6 days. :D

That is true. I took a bitch to breed to a stud once and she absolutely would not stand for him. Then the owners white fiest came across the lawn and stuck his nose through the kennel wire. The bitch ran over, stopped and curled her tail. The stud mounted and bred her while she was dreaming of the wite fiest.

  too funny

I have not tried this, but if nothing else works you could try it. BUT like said above, if she’s run a lot, probably fatten her up with less running will do the trick. Also keep in mind some dogs have blind heats.
