After reading about this cross, I think that AKC should come in and do an current DNA test on the below hounds.

How far back can the DNA Track dogs? Ex. A male is never DNA and the son is does it stop at the son? If 4 generations of males are DNA then can they tell who the grandparents are thru DNA

The only time my dog sounds like a basset is right before he jumps a rabbit and when he is short on scent. He will give a long deep howl. Otherwise he has a beautiful chop on track.

As far as which hounds to DNA, I would agree DNA them all and be done. I know what the outcome is going to be on speck, and any pup he sired. I also asked for pics of speck if anyone had them and got no response.


I dont want my hound to ever breed anything, would it hurt him any if I cut him?

i have a 4 year old male that I rescued from a guy that had him on a short chain and was being beaten. He will hunt rabbits but he runs silent, if he is on deer, which happens alot, then he has a great chop. There are way to many deer around here to try to run him, he just ends up making me mad. He will hunt with a pack but if he gets the check the other hounds dont even know it because he slips out silent. He is more or less a yard dog.
I also have a 15 week old grade male.

Other then those two yes he is the only hound I have, and run consistanly.

In two weeks im driving Up to Green Bay Kennels to pick up a 6 month old female.

Im still gonna hunt this dog as well, only difference is now hes grade, and part basset!!!

Now that I have more info, I just did not want to insult you.Ya see them front legs how bowed? They definitely hurt a hound after a few hours and hurt natural foot speed, however if he is all ya got let him Rip Brother Good Luck.

No offense taken, we have been questioning his looks for several months. He is already about a 4 on speed. Ive known in my mind that something wasnt right, but what do you do. I plan to keep running him, i enjoy watching him run. Im a pretty simple kind of guy, its it chases rabbits and barks im having a good time, but in the same breath, I dont like getting bent over a barrel either. I firmly beleive in treating others how I want to be treated, problem is most people I deal with could not give a sh*t less about anyone but themselves.

Thats a good attitude to have. To many people blow their tops and get nowhere. Hope it all works out for you.

wow yote, I cant believe after seeing the pic of your hound that specks don't have some of those looks too. Im glad to hear hes doing a good job running rabbits for you though. We need to get together and run sometime and you have a PM
