Opinions of experience, How many times to breed a female?

Post by BCBeagles »

I have heard every other day for 3 times total, to breed until they won't stand. What are the opinions on this?

I have heard too many breedings can lead to Uterine infections?

All takes on this welcome. thanks!

I am talking about how many times the male and female actually mate to produce a litter. I was told by my vet it is fine to breed them 2-3 days in a row if she will stand.

Just seeing what others have had success with. He bred her 4 times over a 5 day period. She is still VERY receptive as is he, so I am just wondering what others do in this situation.

I have heard to not overbreed them with risk of uterine infections, which makes perfect sense. Just asking?

It is funny how the old neighborhood whore dog will run the streets and get bred several times a day and every day she is in heat and never have any kind of problems.

Once, and if she produces good pups, keep doing it until she stops producing good pups.

SEMEN CAN LIVE AND BE MOBILE FOR UP TO 48 HOUR INSIDE, SO WITH THAT BEING SAID WHY BREED EVERY DAY. IF YOUR DOING IT FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT FINE, BUT NOT NECESSARY.

Listen Stone Cold, I truly heed your advice, being as you are married to my Aunt. LOL.

Just asking if others have seen issues, thats all.

I am sure when I breed a decent female to ole Turbo you will want him to deliver the goods as many times as possible!!

I like to breed and have had good success breeding on the 12'th day from onset of heat when she first spotted blood and then again on the 14'th day. There is no reason to breed on consecutive days as the sperm can live in the female up to 72 hours.By skipping the day in between you are just extending the amount of time that the bitch has live sperm in her [up to 4 or more days ]during the time she is ovulating and can concieve.
Breeding more than this is really overkill as one breeding that catches the bitch on the right day is as good as breeding her 10 times. The only reason I would let a breeding pair just have at it multiple times is if I wasn't sure of the onset of her heat and when she spotted and wanted to make doubly sure she got bred.
Breeding on the 12'th day after the bitch showed blood I have travelled to a stud dog on half a dozen occasions and bred one time and got back in the truck and drove home and had big healthy litters each time.Personally, if breeding only one time I would rather breed a bitch on the last day that she'll accept the male than on the first day.Quite often bitches will stand early in their heat berore they are actually ovulating, get bred but don't "catch".Seldom will a bitch stand if she's gone past.
Breeding can and does at times result in injuries, infections, contagious and non contagious diseases, prolapses, etc. so it makes sense that the more times the deed gets done the more opportunity for a problen such as a UTI.

Once the second day they will stand has worked for me. That way I dont have to leave my female somewhere. It has worked pretty good for me over the years. And many years before that with Dad and his Foxhounds. I never try to count days as I have had a few that wont stand till 14 days . Its really how easy it is to get her to sthe Stud Logistically. If he is in my kennel I breed em twice .

I have always bred on once the 10th or 11th day after first blood. Always had pups on day 60. I droped Shantie and Skeeter off with Hammerenpatch. Shantie was bred on the 10th the first time and twice after. This morning on the 61st day from first breeding she had 4/m 2/f pups. This cross was made 4 years ago.
Skeeter was bred once on the 18th and is about to explode. This is a Uncle/ Neice cross and her first litter. WE are excited about this cross.

After a number of years and a number of hounds, I've found there are generalities,...and there are exceptions. I try the 10th, 12th & 14th day but I mostly breed from my own. Some bitches cycle early, putting down their eggs and flushing them out the first week,...others will stand till the end of the full three week cycle. Testing the bitch and waiting for the results is the only sure way to get to know how your bitch run her course.
There were some years we had a number of false heats,...then later, they would come in again. Sometimes they make you wonder about the food, water and even the moon phase...

there are no limits to how many times your male can breed your female. the sperm will do good for 72 hours and i will tell u this. i can tell u how to be able to get more number of females or more number of males or i can tell u how to get an even number. well to get this started females are in heat for 21 days come in for a week, stay in for a week, go out for a week. to get more females breed the 1st week, even number 2nd week more males 3rd week. it does not matter ifu stick your male with your female once or 10 times she will have only so many pups. however many eggs she has produced is what the male will fertilize.
