A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
Went up to the cabin this weekend for some yote hunting and some hare hunting. Snow was 10 days old and marginal at best. We managed some runs with some solid hound work and produced the following. Good weekend overall.

Long time buddy... Good hearing from you. Exactly why I occasionally come back to this board. I have met some awesome people through this forum.
The dog on the left in this picture is JR's Chilli dog owned by Roy Munro of Morrice MI. He is out of Tyke and I'm not sure who the bitch on that is would have to look. Awesome dog. Drive, Stanmnia, close check work, Line control and most importantly BRAINS!! He's one of my favorites to run with. Skip could tell you quite a story about a day that a cottontail was being pressured so hard by Chilli that he jumped in the creek swam down stream about 100 yards and got out on the other side. Chilli, Gunner and buttermilk ran the rabbit down to the creek edge and made small loss. Chilli jumped right in swam directly down stream with nothing but his head showing tonguing every breath. Came right out on the track and never missed a beat. We had three pretty expierenced beaglers standing there with our jaws on the ground. Never seen anything like that from a dog in my lifetime. Roy and I live right next door and I'm a little short on the beagle power these days so I borrow when I can or what not.
The dog on the right is Smith Bros Lil Gunner Boy. He is out of my old male Shady Creek Boogity Boogity and Stinetime Ivy. I'm sure you know what I think of Ivy. Purely the best snow hound I've ever seen run. Also was owned by Roy Munro. I gunned Ivy hard the last three years we were in beagles. I've never seen a dog that could run a rabbit everyday. Conditions were no matter for her. You here a lot of guys claim that but most know there are certain scenting days that just suck. Ivy was a once in a lifetime dog in my opinion. I will probably never see better. Gunner himself takes after his mother. He is a upper medium speed check hound. Doesn't care about the front and would rather run 2-4 in a pack then up front. Him and Chillip match up perfectly. Chilli gets the front and Gunner cleans it up. Both of them are gettin up there in age now. The thing I love best about both of them is when your ready to leave the swamp a couple calls the trail and they will even follow you out without a lead. Joy to run with...
A guy by the name of Jeff Feldpaush from Fowler bred to Gunner and my son and my inlaws got pups out of that. They were born October 28th. His female was out of JR's Top Gun Tyke. I've started to lean toward the Ranger Dan stuff nowadays. I still have some Old Branko stuff mostly from Shadycreek Kennels around with Gunner. I seem to like that mix of what both of those lines have to offer. I like the nose Ranger Dan stuff gives and I like the fire that I have gotten out of the older Branko stuff. I haven't been to a trial in I don't even know how long. It was one of the things that turned me off to beagles the most. If that is the standard we measure dogs by that is a poor method in my opinions. I have never found a true format that I would consider putting the dogs in a hunting situation. Before I get ran out of here I would say I like a lot of what all formats offer just don't think there is a pure way to mesaure the dogs capability other than under the gun in a hunting situation. Just my opinion. I likely would trial again if I had a dog that was worthy and my son had interest.
Wow I will take a breath but great hearing from you Stan.... What are you running these days?

Smitty, You sure spoke my language! Glad to see you behind them smaller hounds again but love the big ones as long as someone younger than me can chase them. LOL
As much as I like the big hounds and I really like the yote and cat chases something about the beagles keeps me interested. More so now with my son who is really getting into the hunting scene. Sometimes when cat hunting you can go days without finidng a good track and sometime yote hunting you can go hours and hours without a shot so the action of rabbit hunting keeps his interest. He likes the big dogs as well. I'm excited to watch him train this new pup of his. I'm going to help but he's going to do the work. Be great father/son time that is for sure doing something we both love.

Love the Ranger Dan hounds as well. Got a kennel full of Green Bay, credit to Joe K. For the ones I am lucky enough to have. Big noses and nice medium to upper medium track runners, add to the race not screw it up. Lol.

Exactly... I had a front runner won his first two AKC licensed trials ever entered in... Put him on snow in a pack gunning and it could get rough. Run him solo and he was a machine. I am a gunner and like to run a small pack when I run. I don't run a lot compared to some guys so when I go out to pleasure hunt I need to run the whole kennel. What didnt work for me worked real well for someone else that loved to trial.
