KY guys make sure your legal!

I've been checked twice now-in the last week. Yesterday, the young cons. officer checked my gun with a piece of vacum hose with a hard steel end on it. It had a shaded area on the side- I guess to show the depth. My gun was empty of shells. He wanted to still try it with shot gun shells. I gave him 3. he got 2 in the magazine, & tried to empty it without cycling the shells out. Got the shells jammed & the ejector flipper was in the way. makin my gun useless. He apoligized & promptly left. It took, I bet a half hour for MOBeagler & I to get the shell back into the magazine using a pocket knife & another knife. (All the tools we had). I will educate the next cons. officer.

this sounds a little heavy handed for such a minor infraction, it's like getting a ticket for speeding 56 in a 55 mph zone. from my experience with ky fish and wildlife officers is that you are gulity ,but prove yourself innocent. i sometimes beleive they resent the hunters because they have to do something . i had a co tell me "that when he got out of my truck he wanted everbody to know that he was in charge"it sometimes seems on the border of harassment without us there would be no need for them since we pay there salarie,but why write a ticket a ten year old child could do that you would think he would have used better judgment. enough of the rant good luck with the ticket please excuse the grammer

Who comes up with the laws ????????? With that said modern gun season is open for 10 days her in zone 4 in kentucky and you can hunt with rifles that hold 11 shells............. Now small game hunters can only have 3 shells in their gun...... I don't know about you all but I'm going to fill safer with 11 rounds of 5 or 6 shot then I would with 3 rounds of 308 bullets ..... I hunt both and don't think they should even be a limit on how many shells a gun holds if you haven't killed your target the first 3 shots you probably not going to kill it any ways.

That's right. I very rarely get 1 shot at a rabbit, much less 3. More than 3 shells in my gun would be of no use.

panther creek, Most shotgun trigger assemblies are held in by pins. use your knife and cut a two inch stick and using a rock as a hammer knock the pins out and remove the trigger group , the shell will fall out. Replace the trigger group, takes less time than it took me to type this!

it states rifles that shoot rimfire ammo,or .22 caliber HANDGUNS,muzzle loading or breech loading shotguns no larger than 10 gauge.

Legally,the way the law is written in KY as of now all shotgun pistols,even single shot are illegal to hunt with.

So what you are saying is the Super Comanche I just got for Christmas is illegal. What makes it illegal?

i am not saying a c.o. will cite someone for using them but as of now the only legal HANDGUN for smallgame is a .22 caliber.

Well I checked with the Conservation Officer yesterday and not only the Judge, single shot super Comanche, actually any 410 pistol is illegal to hunt rabbits with in the state of KY.
If someone has heard something different (like from another official) let me know because I like mine. And want to keep using it.
