11/24/2012 - PA rabbit hunt

Post by mjohnson »

Well we had another great day of rabbit hunting. Two of the dogs in here jumped 90% of the rabbits; My FC Maggie and my brother in Laws FC Allie. These two bitches are straight up jump dogs. The rest of the dogs hunted hard and would jump an occasional rabbit, but Mag and Allie are jump dogs just like there father.... Long live the Jump Dog!!

John, come on over.... I had a buddy from NJ come rabbit hunt on Friday.

Likeemfast, my old jump dog is 10 and on his last leg, and I've sifted through a handful to get another!

I recently got into reloading. I used to think as long as I can kill what I'm shootin at I'm happy. Now I won't keep a rifle if it won't shoot less than .5" group at 100yrds. I have that same thing going on with coming up with jump dogs.

I haven't seen Maggie run, but I have ran against Allie on several occasions and she is a hunting fool. She's the hardest hunting big female I have seen in the last two years. My best female hunts hard and Allie out jumps her by a large margin.

Have you been hunting the old man at all Mike?

The old man hasn't been hunting yet this year. I run him with pups for a couple hours at a clip; that's about all the abuse I like to give him. Just had a litter out of him a couple weeks ago and bred a FC bitch to him about 3 weeks ago.

All the dogs in the pic are out of FC Main Man Tucker (line bred DFJ) except one, which is out of Tucker's sister. Maggie and Allie are line bred Indian Hills on the bottom side. The rest are mainly Northway on the opposite side. - Thanks, Mike

Here in good old MARY LAND I won't kill that many rabbits in TWO years . I envy anyone who has a good Rabbit population on a consistant year to year basic
