Wondering why this guy is the only one that has to hunt all the other acreage that is available . always funny when someone tries to tell someone else where they should hunt and where they shouldnt. Trying my darnest to figure out why anyone would want to rabbit hunt during a deer firarms season , heck i dont usually feel safe deer hunting during them

Second its public land I have just as much right to the spot as he does. So I guess we will see what happends we might have a shoot out.
You are right about having the right to hunt there. However it is public land and he has the right to put his tree stand wherever he wants to. If these kinds of things make you this upset I would recomend not hunting public land. Talking about a shootout.......well that is just ridiculous. People have lost their lives over less. Be careful what you wish for.

in ky some kind of deer season is for 4 weekends and then there is 2 weekends of turkey. we only have 3 months to rabbit hunter. im going on public land today and can almost guarantee there will be less trouble there than on private ground.most deer hunters like us around because we keep deer from spending the day laid up in a super hard to hunt area in the middle of open fields. if the guy in the fence row will just stay put any deer in the field that are not jumped will probably try to sneak out down the fence line. most people who would complain really dont know their quarry that well or they would take advantage of you and your dogs.

If you have lived in MI for any amount of time you should know by now that you would be a fool to try and run your dogs opening day of gun season in MI, for your own safety and that of your dogs.

Also just an FYI you don't have to have a CCW to openly carry your handgun ;)

And there are only rabbits in this ONE spot? You said there are thousands and thousands of acres. What if he said the same to you? Who would be rite?

Ok sorry bud let me specify a little clearer. There are thousands up thousands of acres that are good deer hunting spots that happen to be wooded. The spot I am talking about where I currently hunt are whide open fields in which I figured would be safe from the deer hunter. And too all who did post I thank you for your input. But I do believe the reasoning for this post was simply to inquire upon the actions I could take if any if my dogs got shot out of anger? I did not feel like searching through the hunting laws or contacting the local sherrifs department. Sometimes I feel as though people read a little too far into things and find things that are not written. I am not complaining about this individual, I could careless about him being out there at the same time as myself he will not ruin my hunting a bit. Yes all who put on there let him hunt opening day and leave him be, you are exactly right that would be the respectfull thing to do and I will be rescheduling my plans for said day.

You don't need to know what can legally be done if your dog is shot. You can avoid the trouble all together. Let him have the spot. As you said he has as much rite as you do. Go down the road and hunt a different spot. As you said there is alot of other public hunting land... This guy may not be the idiot that you think he is. A fence line between open fields is an excellent spot to catch a deer sneakin through.

I took a drive past the spot on opening day later in the afternoon. The guy never did hunt out there. But like everyone said give him his day, and then hunt it up from there.

public is public. whoever gets there first hunts it. end of story.

get there before he does. problem solved. if his stand is already there then avoid the area.

Your exactly right. Yeah me and my buddy have been hunting this for some time, and then something like 2 or 3 days before opening day Nov. 15 a stand pops up... So like I said I gave him opening day, but now the dogs are gunna be let loose.
