Opening day

Post by bmgreen91 »

Here is a senario I want responses on what I could do. Where I hunt rabbits there is a guy who put a tree stand up in the dumbest place possible. May I mind you it is public land. I'm going out running opening day and I have to walk right by this guys tree strand. Lets say for some reason the idiot shoots one of my dogs? What could I do. I wish I had my CCW already and I would whip out the .40 but.... So what could I do if this event takes place?

Lol. Well first off he should not put his stand in the most ass spot possible. Second its public land I have just as much right to the spot as he does. So I guess we will see what happends we might have a shoot out.

I have some great rabbit hunting spots that get deer hunted hard. I can't imagine any of them would shoot a dog, but I let them have those areas to themselves until regular deer season is over. Public land is just that, first come first served and he has every bit as much of a right to be there as you do. I would never drop dogs on somebody already hunting an area, and I sure as heck wouldn't get in a shoot out over hunting ground.

Treat people the way you want to be treated and you may be surprised the friends you meet along the way...

I hang up my rabbit hunting hat during deer rifle and muzzleloader season. Any trigger happy person out there could shoot and then tell me that my hounds were running deer. I can't take the chance! Unfortunate, but safe.

I know what your saying fasttrackpa but me and my good friend have been hunting the land for who knows how long. This guy in the last couple days just put up a stand. Its not like I just started hunting there and saw his stand and said the heck with him I'm going to run my dogs. On top of all this where I live there are thousands upon thousands of acres of state hunting land and this individual puts a stand in this spot. I think if I do end up running my dogs I dont think I am going to screw up his hunting because where his stand is at he wont see anything to start with.

I dont know abou were you live but I think here in MD, public hunting grounds are off limit to everything but deer hunting opening day of shotgun. After that its whatever. I just try to steer clear of the deer hunter if possible on the publicgrounds.

Where I am hunting are open fields with 2 fence lines. There really shouldnt be any deer hunters out there but this individual seems to think that his stand that is clearly visible in a fence line is going to do him some good. This is deffinitly not a deer spot that is why I am a wondering what this guy knows that I do not.

In MI I assume the opening day you are talking about is the regular deer firearm season. Rabbits have been in season since Sept. 15th. So if I am the deer hunter I would say you are being the selfish cry baby who has from Sept.-March to rabbit hunt, and I have one good day of deer season to kill a deer on public land and only 15 days total. Give me a break. You are being foolish. Keep your dogs up and out of trouble. Hope you heed our warnings for the good of all involve. Sometimes being the bigger man means standing down.

Its all good I'm going out hunting tomorrow and I'm going to check over the tree stand. If it dosnt have his name address and telephone number, I'll dial up the DNR and have it taken down. darn deer hunters taking away my rabbit hunting spot! lol

I dont think it is so much that I am being a selfish crybaby. Its just when you have that much land just down the road to hunt, and you are going to put a stand up there? I guess what it comes down to is if you could get a visual of what I am talking about you would say this guy is a idiot. I would love for him to get a big buck on opening day while I dont hunt. But since he is in the worst spot possible to where I will darn near guarentee he could sit there all season long and not see anything, so why should I give up a day for that..... If I was rabbit hunting in a spot that is heavely deer hunted and I know that it is a good spot to hunt then yes by all means I'll leave it alone. Probably some city slicker that dosnt have a clue about hunting that wants to try.

I usually don't take part in these type of posts on hear but since I engaged in this conversation I will finish with this.

If you hunt there and ruin his opening day or season for him in some way, he will never know if he was in a good or bad spot. Why not leave him alone or meet him and give him some good advice on where to put his stand in the future. Also like it or not you are representing all beaglers to this guy. Please don't give him a reason to tell all his hunting buddies what a bunch of jerks we are :blackeye: .

If you go looking for trouble you will find it.

Good Luck and I hope this all works out for the best.
