The US labor perticipation rate is through the floor, 17 million more on food stamps, millions on cronic unemployment, companies beginning to announce layoffs since he won re-elction, federal deficit tripled, national debt 6 trillion larger, credit agencies threatening to lower the US credit rating again. Job Fairs.

Reality is about to set in.

CHICAGO (CBS) – Thousands of people waited in line for hours Friday morning at Kennedy-King College, to attend a job fair hosted by the city of Chicago, but many of those people left upset, when they found out the job fair wasn’t quite what they were expecting.

WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya reports the line for the job fair went down 63rd Street, around the corner, and about a half block north on Halsted Street, and many of the people in line said they were expecting to be interviewed for jobs with the city and its sister agencies, not simply find out how to apply.

Mayor Emanuel made an unscheduled stop at the event and talked to job seekers, who he said appreciated the opportunity. He said any frustration was the frustration of people who have been out of work for two or three years.

Those waiting in line were hungry for jobs, and had brought along résumés, hoping to make an impression, even if it meant arriving at 3 a.m.

But some booths weren’t even taking résumés, and officials were not conducting job interviews or hiring anyone on the spot. CBS 2’s Susanna Song reports the event was more about networking and learning about available positions with the city and its sister agencies.

Anthony Rodgers, who was first in line at 3 a.m., said, “I need a job. I need a job, that’s the bottom line. … The best way to get a job? Be there before your employer’s there.”

Some of those in line already have jobs, but are barely making enough money to stay afloat, so they’re looking for more work.

Marie Cunningham said she’s “a single mom trying to get more income right now, because part-time is just not enough. It’s not meeting all my needs, so now I need to try to get something else.”

She said she’s hoping to get a job with the CTA or the Chicago Park District.

The city of Chicago and its sister agencies are hiring for positions ranging from seasonal jobs to full-time employment. The jobs range from police officers to bus drivers to working for the city’s inspector general.

Those attending the job fair were able to drop off résumés with representatives on site, or submit applications online at computers provided in the back of the room.

But those attending shouldn’t expect to be hired on the spot.

Chrissy Batorski, with the city’s Human Resources Department, said, “A lot of the sister agencies, including the city of Chicago, have a required hire plan that we have to abide by, so on-the-spot jobs is not gonna really happen.”

That stunned some job seekers who were expecting more from Friday’s job fair.

Cherrie Moore said, “They just got fliers of resources, things we could have got on the Internet, things we probably already know about.”

Rodney Booker said, “I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.”

Job seeker Keyonya Mills was frustrated by the miscommunication. “They could have said, go online, fill out the application. If you do not know how to fill out a application, come to Kennedy-King College and we’ll train you. They have people wrapped around this entire building thinking this is a job fair and this is not a job fair”, Mills said.

However, others who stood in line for the job fair had a different view.

Bobby Jefferson said, even though people won’t be hired on the spot, the event was worth the long lines.

“Of course; I’m one step closer,” he said.

City human resources officials apologized for not being more clear what was going to take place at the job fair.

The salaries for available city jobs featured at the job fair range from $30,000 to $110,000 a year. The job fair was scheduled to run until 1 p.m. Friday, but organizers said they’d keep it open longer if people are interested.

He's perfect in your eyes. You have never made one post about Obama that doesn't glorify his presidency. If you can refer to a post you've made doing so, I will gladly apologize. Where do you get your information? I agree with some but most, to me, seem to be misleading to say the least. The strict regulations have created nothing but problems. I don't understand how the american people think their lights stay one day in and day out. Yes it seems the rates go up but don't eveything. It's called inflation. With these new regulations electricty is only going to get more expensive. Then everyone will whine about paying their power bill. Coal is one of this great countries greatest natural resource. Why not use it.

I truly believe that Obama care will do nothing but create hardship for the ones who already have insurance through their employer. I am not talking about all these lazy people who milk the system everyday and get free healthcare. Free for them but not for me. We will see what happens in the next four years. We are stuck with him now and there is nothing we can do about it. Sad but true. I only hope that I am wrong but the way things went the first four years, its not looking good.

I was just notified by my employer today that one of the provisions in Obama care is that I will be taxed for the cost of my insurance plan. Our company is self insured and I now have to pay taxes on an additional $30,000.00! Thanks for helping me Obama! Just what I wanted to do is pay more taxes! And everybody thought this was free health care! LOL!

Oh and the deductable will go up and the overall pay out will go down by 20% and thats Supposed to HELP???? Were is the Free part of this Oh thats Right it will only be Free if i quit my Job lose everything or become a minority!!!! then the middle calss or whats left of them will pay for it by the tax increase thats right NOW i will have to pay INCOME tax on my medical insurance!!! so not only will my income tax go up 4% to 18% but now my taxable income will go up too i wont make any more in fact i will take home up to $7.500 a year LESS....How is that AFFORDABLE??????
