To all of you that think a dog is made not born. What do you teach your dog,in my opinion not much, you give it exposure ,teach it to handle and not run trash. It is born with the genetics of speed, hunt, and how checks are handled. We all wish we had the magic wand to make great dogs, it come down to this ,breed dogs with the right tools you like, use alot of shoe leather, and carry a tritronics.this is the only way you will have great dogs, field champ or great hunting hound.Al

Great dogs only need nutrition/conditioning and a ride to the trial.

I agree, a FC should be a special hounds. A breeder's not going to get all "special hounds". For him, success is keeping the "average" at or above what is acceptable for his standard. "Special hounds" are icing on the cake. imho
When so many hounds make FC, are they all that "special" or is it the variations in type and different standards that make it attainable?
A breeder is working under one standard, his own. :???:

why does it have to be one or the other either made or born ? I would have to say it's a combination of both, and I can't see how anyone can disagree....

Maple Valley I don't no y u cldnt get a break wasnt der but in my opinion if u can't finish ur dog and u believe he has da talent den u aren't doing someting rite in ur running program!! I beleive successful beaglers dat no how ta get da most out of dese hounds like branko the stevves Monkman I cld.go on but I believe day cld.make a poodle into a Fc. Dem guys just nos.what it takes ta bring da best out of a hound!! JMO

to your point Harry
When i was at Brankos , He bred a poodle to IFC Branko's Trade Sign just to prove this point , i laughed when i saw him putting a tracking collar on this furry little dog . he smiled at me and said he would put this dog up against any FTCH or FC and would never be embarassed . We ran 12 little females for about 9-10 hours. it was something watching "fluffy " come across the grass feilds that are from bluff to bluff leading 11 other hounds. There was 2 other Champions running too. i saw about 30 lines that day and fluffy took the red ribbon .
