Need pup advice, kennel barking

Post by gfedor »

I have a beautiful 13 week pup, bred right from proven line. When I first got her, she was quiet as a mouse in the kennel. My daughter and wife played with her every day until I got home, put her back in kennel with older dog and all was fine. Recently (kids at camp) she barks until wife sprays with hose, she will quite down and couple hours later same thing, my neighbor already called us twice, I have a bark collar but I think too young, also have remote shock collar but im not home when she barks. Wha
t to do?? Cannot have a yappy dog in yard (nj), my other two are dead silent. if she doesnt stop it ill try to sell her or trade for older 3/4 yr old gundog that is dead quiet in kennel

Any help or advise is appreciated

I think you can try to correct them but it is mostly in there genetics. I know people that try to control it and have some success but they will always be yappy. When I breed one of my females one of the first things I ask the stud owner is," How is your male in the kennel?" If the intended stud is a kennel barker then I don't even go watch him run because I will never breed to him. I live on a one acre lot and can't have dogs barking at 2:00 am. Even if the stud owner tells me the dog is silent in the kennel I still make a point to go see the stud run and see for myself that he does not bark when I pull up to the kennel. So far I have had good success, When you pull up to my home not one dog will bark. Hell the last pup I raised I thought there was some thing wrong with his voice box, because untell about 5 months old I never ever heard a peep out of him. Untell he started running rabbits.......Good luck to you......DH

Stern words and a water hose have helped a few learn to be silent at my house. I have neighbors close by and can't have yappers all the time. My wife even can get in on this if I am not home.
Where's the earth shattering kaboom ?

I agree with Deerhost. Most dogs I have had were pretty quiet, but once in a while I get a dog that just barks all the time for no reason. They dont stay here long!

like everyone else a water hose or bucket of water and a stern HUSH will usually get there attention, heck it usually gets the other dogs attention. but like them also If I get to upset to often it may not live here long, thankfully my dogs havnt been as bad as Ive felt the few times Ive had to correct or my neighbor is great

They do make a water blaster kennel silencer have considered buying one my self. Its automatic when the dog barks the water sprays. Not cheap tho.

I think you've answered your own problem.
Before, the kids and wife got her out to play and burn off the energy. She's a puppy, she misses her mama and her litter mates, your kids and wife filled that void, now with them gone, she's alone an feels abandoned.
When you name her, call her "Lonely", that way you'll be reminded to giver her what she needs the most..."love/attention".
Best wishes...

Put some black, heavy plastic around the kennel so she can't see out.
