Price of Better Beagling Magazine

Post by johns03272008 »

Maybe I'm being a tight wad here but has anyone else noticed that the price of Better Beagling Magazine went up to $30 for 12 months??? I personally think that's a bit high but that's just me! !what are your thoughts?

They did go to all color for pictures and what not, so I can see how it got to be a little more expensive. My opinion is $2.50 a month isn't too bad for such a good mag. I wish there was more hunting articles, but in the NorthEast it's good for trial ads and results...

I agree on the $2.50 isn't bad but with them having people pay $300+ for the cover and how ever much for other adds I think there should he more articles or areas that have learning material in it instead of half of it being results that's clubs also pay to get in there!! I like seeing the results just as much as the next guy but I would also like to see more informational stories and such in my opinion, I don't know how much it costs to print or how time consuming I assume it takes awhile but I figured I would start a thread and see!!

Personally I think Better Beagling is the highest quality magazine out there.
The pictures are excellent and its put together quite creatively.
I like the interviews with various beaglers.

The Rabbit Hunter back in the early 90's was awesome when people submitted stories and had alot of kennel ads, stud pages, etc.
Though black/white it was still good reading. Now, its basically trial results.

As for people complaining about a lack of stories.... Send One In

I like the magazine since the Rabbit hunter isnt what it used to be.I do miss the quanity of stud ads but these sites have alot to do with that. The only reason fastrac likes it is because he can look at himself in some of the pics. You look better in the magazine than at the beach.(lol) Al

2.50 a month in the price of the hound owning/running world is a joke. I think it's fair priced and a decent read wish there was more about rabbit hunting but I still like the trial reads also.

been getting better beagling since 1980's. Ralph and his wife have taken the magazine to another level with the color photos not that Bob & Pearl Baker done a bad job but getting it from vermont to north carolina was about around the 15 th or 17th 2 weeks into the month. Now from NY where Ralph and Sarah live i have it often a week before the new month even starts sometimes 2 weeks ahead. For the timeliness and quality publication it has become $30 year is reasonable. The Chase fox hound magazine is $35 on cheap paper black and white. The Hunters Horn fox magazine is $25 year black- white color picture cover.Steve Church ps Bev done a great job with TAB too.

I've been getting Better Beagling for the past 20 years and have been contributing articles to it for the past 17 years. The originators of B.B. were Bob and Pearl Baker who had a veritable wealth of first hand knowledge as to the many old time beaglers, hounds, trials, breeding crosses, etc.that have served as a foundation for our sport. From Large Pack icons to S.P.O. pioneers such as Tom and Velta Dornin of Little Ireland fame and Frank Reese of the Gay Beagles.
Now the Harrington's have indeed taken it to the next level as has already been mentioned offering so much more than "Joe Bob and Billy Jack took old Hornblower and killed them a bunch of rabbits"stories to offering breeder interviews, club profiles, trial results in several different formats, reporting on the sport's largest and most pretigious competition events,Hall of Fame nominees, articles by a licensed veterinarian, identifying and awarding the top reproducers of placing field competitors, hunting stories from diverse locals and all in sharp color photoghapy [ courtesy of Sarah Harrington's skills ] etc.
All for $2.50 an issue???? You CAN'T buy any magazine dealing with anything from motorcycles, computers, fighting gamecocks to flower gardening for that price on any store shelf that I know of.Never mind having it arrive in a timely matter at you house!!!! I wouldn't be without and look forward to it's arrival each month.

I sure look forward to my magazine coming every month. It's one of those "simple pleasures" in life. I tried to think of something that brings as much entertainment or satisfaction that only costs $2.50 and I couldn't come up with anything. While I hate to see the inflationary costs of things as much as anyone, I think they have done a pretty good job of keeping the cost low and improved the quality. I purchased a roll of 3M scotch tape at Home Depot to tape before I painted......1 roll.....$6.47.....have you been to the gas pump lately, how about the grocery story.

Bottom line is if the cost exceeds the value people will stop purchasing it. As far as I'm concerned BB magazine is one of the better values out there.
