trapping
Guys I can trap rabbit one after another during the winter here in Michigan, But summer has kicked my butt. I have tried apples, greens, and everything else, I tried rabbit pellets (go figure and have caught two in a row. I watched the last one go in. All summer I have had one in the yard and can not get him. He comes eats grass itches his back against the trap (just joking) but close well last night he came in the yard walked up and in the trap. Tonight I got 10 more traps to put out.

Re: trapping
try a "summer time" trap like a normal harvart live trap or the following ideas, if your using a regular rabbit gum. i hear they work better in summer, and hot weather. were im from its illeagal to trap but in rabbit season, but i understand your need as i do sometimes myself when i get a place were there building a new house or something.

Re: trapping
19Rabbit52 can tell you how to make a Hoover Trap and catch rabbits any time. He will chime in shortly I am sure but he made one for my friend and I and we have caught rabbits in them. These traps cost nothing just some old wood you will have laying around.

Use vanilla extract, mix it with water 5 parts water, 1 part Vanilla extract.. Put a apple in the trap, then spray the trap with the vanilla along with the apple.. I can trap rabbits all year round.

Re: trapping
I like apples for bait and also spray a short trail of apple juice going into the trap. I use a "Hoover Box" like Buck said and I think rabbits like going in them. Don't know how to put a picture on here so will try to explain. Build a wooden box 8" wide X 12" tall X 32" long wooden box. That is 8x12 open both ends by 32 long. On one end I put 1x2 or 1x1 fencing. 12 inch tall traps seem to work better than shorter and rabbit must be able to see thru. The end with fencing is the back of trap. On the front of trap I make a slide gate for a wooden door that goes about 8" above trap (like a guillotine). Then about 8" from back of trap, drill a hole abut 1.25" round, centered in top. Then about 10" from front drill about half inch hole, centered in top. Then you need a stick, about the size of a broom stick, probably 26 inches long. Then a Y stick about 12 inches and you can trim later. Also a stick about 14 inches long about as big around as your thumb. You also need a peice of rope about the size of a shoe lace. Get some super small fence staples, put one in center of top of door. Also put staple in end of 14" stick. What you do now is; tie shoe lace to door and end of 26" stick. Tie another shoe lace to other end of 26" stick and to staple in 14 inch stick. Put Y stick in half inch hole. The 26" stick sort of balances on Y (door side heavy). 14 Inch stick goes in 1.25" hole. 14 inch stick a is trigger that you need to cut a notch to catch inside top. Weight of door holds in place. When rabbit tries to get past stick to get apple door drops, rabbit caught. They do work very good and if you have scrap they are very cheap. Height does seem to be important and being able to see thru. Aged wood definately works better too.
