I hope a lot of people pug their shock collars up for sale so I got plenty to chose from cause I ain't buying it!! Can't use it in a trial and can only shock if your in communication with the collar so on a bad day for reception I hope you don't have a good ol deer run or its gonna make for a fun day!!! I myself like the older 220 but that's just me!! I hope its money well spent for everyone that spends that kind of money for it!!

Does the sportdog have to have communication with the collar to be able to shock or does it work like a regular shocker? If so, wouldn't the shocking range be like a normal system?

When I looked it up online the other day of said IT HAD TO BE IN COMMUNICATION with the collar to be able to shock!

Every system out there needs to be in communication to shock. The difference being if you use the TEK or the Alpha you will know if you are able to hit them or not. No matter if you are talking about 300 yards or 9 miles. Not only that, you know where they are headed if you need to get closer.

I understand what your saying but I was unsure if it used the signal from the gps or if it was a standard shocker just built into the handheld giving you the ability to still shock if you lost gps signal. Also earlier discussions on the Alpha alot of guys were questioning the amount of time to shock with the different screens you might have to go through. Is the Sportdog easier when it comes to that? Thanks

guess I needed to be more specific the way I understood it was that it was along with the GPS tracking so the way I understand it is that it will be GPS signal but that for now is just how I understand it!

The range issue is all about the radio signal from the collar to the GPS just like all shockers. That means if you have comm you can shock. Ever hear of someone saying that they don't get the 2 miles from a trashbreaker? With both of these systems you know where the range ends, and you can get closer if you need to. the Garmin at least will let you know where you lost comm. Very handy in my opinion.Ease of going from one dog to the next will depend on how many dogs you have on it. It will be easier with less collars but having them named insted of trying to remember what color collar is a plus. All you do is highlight the dogs name and hit the buttons. Pre programmed levels for each so you do not need to spin a dial. Just hit the button(s)

I have talk with one person that has had there hands on one and compared it to the Sport Dog TEK Unit as about the same size. Again this is the Video from Garmin

I have been messing with one for a couple of weeks now and the TT10 collar is no where near as big as the TEK collar with Ecollar module attached.

The weight of the Alpha collar is 10.4 oz.

The Sportdog combo is 12.0 oz.

T. Lee what you are saying about the New Garmin Alpha Collar is right on the Weight,
10 .2 ounces is what I was told on Alpha
12.3 Ounces on the Sport Dog TEK Combo Collar

But also I was told that the Alpha Collar is the same size as the Sport Dog TEK if not maybe a little bit bigger in size. The reason I was told that the TEK weighs more is due to the Collar strap is bigger in size, I have not seen the Alpha so until I see one there is no way for me to tell you for sure.
