I bought them and am sending them back ( i hope) I think they are way too big to use on a beagle but I guess a lot are using them with no problem.

I use just the tracking only. I don't have the combo , but I like them just fine. The map doesn't bother me at all , but I have never owned a garmin either. The sportdog tells me all I need to know. How far away the dogs are, and in what direction. I run in many of the same spots so I just have "way points" ,marked along the road , to keep in perspective where they are at. My 2 biggest complaints are this , #1- the collars are big and don't fit around a beagles neck very well and needs some foam weather stripping added to the inside of the collar to fit bitter. Not a huge deal , but a bit annoying at times when you have to replace it frequently. #2- the antennas seem a bit too brittle in the cold and break often. On the good side to this , sportdog has great customer service and have quickly solved any issues I've ever had. They claim to be working on making this issue better.

i downloaded a owners manaul to my phone and have been reading on it all day i think im gonna like it one of my main concerns was one of which was alot of people concerns based on what comments ive read on previous post on this board that concern being that you couldnt use the collar in a field trial to track ur dogs because of the shock training part of the collar well from what i read that is not gonna be a problem because with 2 allen screws the shocking mechanisim can be removed and a back plate cover is slid down in its place which there for makes it only a tracking collar which will work great for me

Does it have the tone feature?? I know that AKC trials will not allow any kind of beeper or tone collar in their trials! With all these features coming out we may not even be allowed to run tracking collars at all soon!!

Wildcat, The information that I have gotten is that the Alpha Weighs 10.2 ounces and the TEK weighs 12.1 ounces NOT ANY DIFFERENCE IN SIZE or that is what I am hearing, I might be wrong just have to wait till they come out. The only difference is you CANNOT take the Shocker off of the Alpha so you will not be able to use it in any Field Trials that I know of, as I do not think you can run Shock Collars in any Field Trial.

got my sportdog tek in today used it and it works great with faster update times than the garmin an
d battery life up to 20 hrs at a 3 second update and the hand held is rechargeable so no more AA batterys and about the beeper or tone option it has a better and louder tone than tri tronics and the tone removes with the shocker when ur remove the shocker part of the collar and i like its training options alot better simple because theres more options to choose from u can customize settings for each individual dog and put ur three option buttons in what ever order u want u have a tone option a vibrate option and of course a shock option and has 20 levels of stimualtion which goes from a tick to oh that hurt the baby oh yeah and as far as collar size dont know about small dogs but they fit my 14 to 15 inch dogs really good and as far as tracking u dont have to wait forever for it to pick ur collars up when u get to ur hunting grounds and turn ur collars on it picks them up almost as soon as u turn them on i think im gonna like them forsure i dont know much about them yet but likem so far and dont see how u could go wrong with them tri tronics alpha may be better but id say ill be sticking with these

i posted this before i bought mine decided to go head and by the sportdog combo
well i bought back in august and have used em a couple time a week
the shocker side of the collar works the very best so much better than tri tronics
but the tracking side is allready tore up on both collars
they turn on but thats it either collar will pick up
when they r working they work just as good as garmin but keeping them working is rhe hard part

If they don't stay working they aren't worth having to me, it would be the one time I actually needed them that they would quit. It sucks that they keep breaking down on you, hopefully they can rectify the situation so it doesn't keep happening. They are already at quite a disadvantage to Garmin for not having maps which is huge to a lot of folks but if they aren't dependable either I don't see them doing well over the long haul.
