how much food do you feed in hot weather cant get weight off dogs are run couple times week i just feed once a day one cup in evening

i would not go lower than one cup unless you feed really high quality feed and it would be ok to go 3/4 cup but that feed would need to be high in protein and fat.

I always cut down on the amount of feed I am feeding in hot weather if I am not running but most of my dogs eat less food on their own in hot weather so I don't have to cut down.

i always cut down the portions in summer . just keep an eye on energy and looks ,,i got 1 female if i dont watch her she will turn into a barrel ///sometimes i feel bad i feed her so little .. but she always has planty of enegry

Try buying a bag of lower protein & fat for warm weather. Even if their activity level is the same as winter months they don't need quit as much "fuel" if you will to stay warm. Remember when any warm blooded animal is in a cold environment their nutritional needs are greatly increased just from the fact they've gotta keep the furnace going to stay alive. When the need to maintain that body temp goes away & the same nutrition is being eaten then you gotta put it somewhere. Body says better store it for the winter when we'll need it, problem is they don't need to store it for winter. They have trained us to go get their food for them LOL.

I don't worry too much about alittle extra weight in the summer,if they will put on weight odds are that they are healthy.When you start running them just take it slow and easy, fat out of shape dogs get hot quick.I would much rather have a dog that was overweight to get in running condition as one that was underweight and try to get muscle on them.

In summer I get old bread and feed three pieces to each dog every other day. Other days feed Sportsmans Pride dog food. Once a week, feed nothing.
Helps keep them lean since we don't run much in hot weather.

Summer or winter, I never have an pre-determined allotment of food for my dogs. I try to feed them based on how they look. If they begin to gain weight, I cut back a little. If they are thin, I increase the amount. In hot weather, I try to keep them just a little thinner so they cope a little better. I treat them like athletes and adjust their food intake almost daily.

Agree with the constant adjustment. One thing that I have done when trying to "fine tune" their weight & was very helpful is take a pic with your cell phone. Then adjust the feed & give it a week or so. Then look at the pic on your phone when you go feed one day & compare. Beagles are a lot like beaglers, when you see them everyday you don't notice a little extra weight. It's only when the little becomes a lot or when you see a pic from leaner times Either way I do try to give any food adjustments at least a week as weight doesn't come off overnight just like it doesn't get put on overnight with us or them.
