My thoughts on pricing:

Having cheap beagles and expensive beagles keeps our sport going strong.. Its cheap enough that even a kid can find a dog and go to the field and have a pet. But it can be expensive enough for people to get involved that have a lot of money and wanna spend it on something they want in their kennel or to win a title with..

Both valid options and help us all.. I would not pay someone 500 for a pup under any circumstances but I would pay a man for a pup even if he offered me a free pup because i know it cost him to make a cross...
God isn't real, Beer is good and people are crazy, there I fixed it.

This one is pretty Simple to me!! I Sell pups for $500 and Up because I can!! But at the Same time i have been known to give pups away. WHY?? Again because i can!
I Would much rather sell one for $500 that i KNOW is going to cared for as a family pet and hunting /Show Companion! over selling One for $150 that will be kept in an Above ground kennel and taken out twice a year or put on a chain only to be seen at feeding time. I have given Pups away to a youngster for a pet or companion to get a young person interested in the breed over selling one for cheap that i aint sure whats going to happen to it. but THAT IS My PERSONAL Preference..
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be

LOL so the answer is "NO" you have not raised, trained, or bred a single a.k.c fc beagle correct ? I figured so b/c you were freely throwing out theories like you were tossing out candy on a float in a parade LOL mean while you've never done it, and there are breeders out there who do it on a consistant basis. I bet there theories are'nt the same as your's so now I can competely ignore what you posted in that post LOL...j/k "just sayin"

Now most guys have never seen any of these dogs run but do know what they have done in the producing world. Would you be willing to pay a little more than $150.

Next Example say you bought a pup out of a cross made a few years back and it turned out perfect to your liking and the rest of the litter was the same would you be willing to pay a little more for another pup if the cross was made again.

Now i want a Reggie pup out of a good Bitch and their are not a lot of Reggie pups around where I live I would be willing to pay a little more to the guy who takes his time and gas money.

not evertone has your money jammie.

i don't know uf anybody that sells there pups for 500, then gives them away unless there is something wrong with, say over bite, short eared bug eyed.

Yes every pups is a gamble but I want the odds on my side.

$150 pups are still out there. Price sometimes depends on where the pups going. I have a breeding planned of which most of the pups will be free because they are going to guys that I KNOW will care for them and hunt them. If I were to sell any and Joe Blow from Idaho wanted one, the price is $750.

So if Billy bob from ky wanted one for a pet for his wife , it's 750.00.? Hey boys ya want cheap pups? Go to pups for sale section them boys in the top five spots would probaly jump at that price. Well bred pups have flooded the market, or at least it seems. Somebodys making money just not sure who.

I see you are quick to point out that I've never bred, raised, trained an AKC filed champion BUT yet you haven't either. From your own website I see what couple titles you pack seems to be in UKC and all I can say to you is that I had beagles back when they were registered as UKC foundation stock ( yellow pedigrees) Now, UKC is the registry I competed in with coon hounds and was a licensed judge so I have somke knowledge and experiance in UKC.
I'd be real interested in ALL these breeders that are consistently breeding, raising, training and making AKC filed champions as I'd be interested in buying me one of those guaranteed field champion puppies! Facts are that breeding beagles is like playing cards they have backs on them so you have no idea of whats on the other side and it's a gamble of what you will get when you put them all into the pile.
I don't think in all my 50+ years of following hounds I've seen one boni-fide expert on breeding, raising, training or making beagles AKC field champions, although I've seen many with years of trial and error experiance that have been fortunate enough to make some. As I have stated numerous times on these threads, there are those that when they speak, they are like E.F. Hutton to me. I stop, read and listen. Not because they profess to be experts but rather because their theory seem to have merit from their experiance. Owning a field champion does not an expert make but knowledge obtained from years and years of trial and error does make for some pretty good theory. Ignore or not as I truely could care less BUT having the ability to know when to hold em and know when to fold em seems to transpire when one has served the test of time to be able to have a theory and a couple of field champion titles won't be justification for them to be like E.F. Hutton to me. There are folks on these forums that are like that who have not bred, raised, trained and made an AKC filed champion BUt yet I can tell more about them from what they write then the titles they tout!

wardog, Some good points in your post. Nothing seems to make an expert any quicker than owning a good dog, whether the man knows anything or not there will be those with even less knowledge who think he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It doesn't matter if the man bought the dog, found the dog, or bred him. ( notice they can't ever repeat the breeding feat if in fact they were the breeder. Of course if you breed it several hundred times you may get a good pup or two, ) This is just normal human behaviour from those who really don't understand the game at hand. This behaviour is not restricted to beagles it applies to just about everything. Let me give you an example, A good friend of mine who is really a lousy deer hunter and he always freely admitted it ,( he would kill a buck about every two years everyone else in camp always killed two and were generally holding out for a big one after the first day. he was always looking for anything he could get,) We would take turns placing him in good spots and he would generally find someway to spook the deer or miss it, But anyhow this friend, wasn't feeling lucky so he came back to camp early one morning was in the outhouse with the door open we he saw a buck cross the field in front of the camp. grabbed his 30-30 walked out to the field edge ,couldn't see the deer ,done gone, got a call on his cell phone and sat down on a rock in the field , was talking on the phone when a 4 wheeler started off the hill behind him. well the four wheeler spooked a buck out into the field right in front of him , he layed down the phone took careful aim on the deer's shoulder and hit it right in the head. Biggest buck ever killed in those parts. when he walks into the local sporting goods stores the old boys practically sat at his feet while he throws out the hunting wisdom. He is a legend. It's just that all of those folks fawning all over him do not have a clue. He and I have a good laugh over it at camp every year. Same way with dogs. Now I don't blame the man with the dog same as I don't blame my friend. There are those in that area that if I said that the man didn 't know anything about hunting , would call me all kind of names, threaten me, and probably burn my truck, They just don't understand the game they are playing! I find both situations quite funny!

I have'nt trialed a.k.c much yet but I the bloodline i stick with is based off FC's from the a.k.c trials, but i'm not on here proclaming the things you are either Lmao...."jist sayin" don't get you're panties in a wad i was just pointing a slight deficiency in the information you were trying to pass on. Don't have much else to say about that LOL LOL LOL.....gwyoung keyboards seem to make people experts too ;)...i'll update my website someitme when i find the time between running my dogs and working..... thanks for checking out my website however it's abit out dated as of about 2 years LOL I should propably fix that, but my phone number is posted as well if anyone is interested in making any inquries. Seems like the only time anyone is interested in buying one of my over priced dogs is when I don't have any to sell...however people to do buy them from time to time..;) also like TC I've given quite a few away from different reasons.......lots of times it's to new hunters interested in hunting with dogs sort of like planting a seed...(that was another analogy)....the problem here is you don't know the people or the dogs so why critisice any of them ? I have not made any claim to fame nor do i want one. I enjoy dogs I enjoy hunting and i enjoy competing I wish my fellow competitors the best of luck and always congratulate them when the time calls for such. Wardog I made a pretty obvious statement that is hard to disagree with and I'm humble enough to admit I don't have very many answers and I'm trying to figure things out for me as far as what works and what does'nt work I feel like i've made progress and will pay alil extra $$ for something that may help me out if i have the extra $$ to spend and I have seen with my own 2 eyes that it could help my own breeding program out....I guess some people are just too stubborn to admit if they are wrong or not....maybe i am maybe i'm not ? but i definitley feel that you are wrong this time....i'm sure you have some good dogs but you are not proven in the akc circuit nor am i.....therefore i'm not on here telling people about the breeding ideals it would take to breed consistant akc fc's....that is my only point in disagreeance with a few of you're posts..beautiful world when we can agree to disagree however my pm box being filled up is proof that several others agree with what i'm saying....LOL!!!

Ohlinger, the keyboard doesn't make experts, it just let's us know who they are. I noticed you said you don't have many answers on breeding dogs, rest assured most others do not either. It's a genetic thing and I don't believe any of us have it all figured out. some know more than others, and that was one of my points in my earlier post. let someone stumble on to something and the next thing you know they are experts. breeding not so good dogs and flooding the market and turning people off who have brought pups.it is a lot tougher to breed all of the traits that make a good rabbit dog into a hound, than it is to breed pretty into a poodle, or similar dog. that is why someone will pay a thousand dollars for one of the mini hounds ,it only has to do one thing, look like it's parents. This is pretty much assured so that person gets his money's worth. With all of the traits that must be bred into a beagle most are not going to turn out and this in my opinion is why most wont pay much for a beagle. there are also people who do not try to breed all the desireable traits into a hound because they are only looking for one thing and hoping for the rest, The guys breeding for speed is a prime example. now, I believe a man should ask whatever he wants for his pups, and if someone wants to pay it fine. You can breed the two best dogs in the world and the pups may not have all the traits that make a good hound, but you odds are going to go up, this is why I don't buy pups. But I sell pups on occassion and I am glad there are people that buy them. But an honest assessment should be made of both hounds before they are bred, Notice I said an honest assessment of the hounds, pedigrees are important would not breed without looking at them, but the majority of the weight of assessment should be on the hounds performance and faults. We often see posts where someone shows two pedigrees and asks what we think about such a cross, this person in my estimation brands himself as a beginner right away and probably should not be breeding hounds.( I have seen some remain beginners all of their life) I think I may have got off topic!

Gas is $3.50 per gallon
my electric bill has went up close to $100 per month over the last 5 years
I priced a new 4x4 truck at the dealership the other day $60,000
A 50lb bag of dog food is $28 and up
Price of ammunition is up 30%

It seems the price has went up on most everything else but if the price of a pup goes up $100 you guys act like it's the end of the world i have too many other things to worry about I don't care what someone ask for for his pups if i don't like the price or can't afford the extra $100 then i won't buy it. What a bunch of cry babies!

(I sold my pups from my last litter for $150 and now people are selling their pups for $250  I"M TELLING MOMMY AND I"M NOT YOUR FRIEND ANYMORE)

Bunch of cry babies that should have better things in life to do than debate the price of pups. How pitiful we all are. . . yet here you are posting on the same thread as us crying about what we're posting  :baby:
