Re: Side by side shotgun
I hunt with a side-by-side 28 gauge and love it. My favorite small game shotgun. It is a Baikal, but I am not sure if they make them anymore. I also have a 16 gauge side-by-side that I like as well.

Re: Side by side shotgun
I don't know much about the stoegers but I have used SxS shotguns for 45 years. Many are light and lively and almost seem to jump to your shoulder and point theirselves. My main gun is a 20 SxS imported from Italy by a company named Richland Arms, my 1971 high school grad present. Lion Supply sells the nice ones but they break the bank for someone like me, once in a life time shotguns.
Re: Side by side shotgun
Fox 16 ga sxs or the first gun I ever owned a 16 single cannon.
Re: Side by side shotgun
I had that same gun, sold it. Its ok but mine would not shot remington shells at all the primers were set to deep for the fireing pin to hit. You have to keep the firing pins very ( i mean very clean) or they will hang up and not hit the primer hard enough to make the shell go off no matter the brand. Just my experience with one.

I have a stoger 28 guage s/s and I really like it, only downside is the double trigger and no ejectors.
I have a browning 20 guage s/s that has ejectors and single trigger, so once your used to that hard to get used to others.
The stoger has a nice feel and quick to the shoulder and does not cost an arm and a leg to buy.I would recommend it.

Re: Side by side shotgun
Why do you not like the double triggers bellmore? does the stoeger single trigger have a selector switch? if its double action which shoots first? i want the 28 gauge but the choke is fixed in modified and full i would want both the same and the modified is probly on the right and im left handed.

Re: Side by side shotgun
yes I like the gun alot, seems to pattern best at 25 to 35yds, I use lower brass field load #6, I would say with high brass you can get another 5 to 10yds for sure!!. But will destroy a rabbit too close or miss alot
.

Re: Side by side shotgun
Stoeger is too heavy for all day thick brush running.IMO. I have the .410 and 20 gauge. Really don't like the double trigger. Never got used to it. Heard the coach gun style is nice. Have Charles daly over under that is super lite. That's what I use.

Re: Side by side shotgun
Noshow, the honest truth is the bullets I use cost about $11 per box for 28ga as oppsed to $7 for 20 guage, they basically do the same thing. I have 20 guages and 410s, I just like the fact is something different. Not sure how much you shoot, but if you do like to blast away, the 20 guage is better choice. I go through about 3 boxes of shells per year, so the cost of bullets no issue. Truthfully once there is snow on ground I use 410 most time, and those bullets are $15 per box
. But again I used to be a big shooter but now just kind of enjoy the time out with dogs and friends, last year I got a snakecharmer singleshot 410 and used all jan and feb.
The weight of the gun is not terrible, I also use a franchi 48al in 20 guage, that is a feather compared to any double barrel. But I would say best thing is to shoulder it at gunshop and see how feels to you.
I am very happy with my 28 guage. When I purchased mine it had a factory blemish on stock and got the gun for $300.
Bottom line it is a decent gun that gives you a feel of having something different in your hands, and not a crazy price , especially since it will get scratched in the brush, I know all my guns do, as I am always in there with the dogs.. If you like the feel, don't mind the double trigger, and have the funds, I would say get it!
