too much hunt
I have a two year old male that just ranges too far for my taste when trying to jump a hare.Is there a way to reel him in some.I got him at fourteen months as a started hound and am happy with him other than that.He wasn't that way for the first couple of months so perhaps it is something I allowed to happen. The more familiar he is with the area we are hunting the worse it is.Can it be corrected?

Gun Hunt the crap out of him and reel him in.
Dog ranging too far
I think the best thing is to get an e-collar. Bump him and call him in soon he will learn to hunt with you. Sometimes dog will do this is not hunted enough. You need to run him as much as possible. The more you work with him wether in the field or around the yard he will listen moer and more.
Good luck

my male went through a spell like this first he wouldn't hardly hunt then when i got him going he hunted realy good and in good range then when he turned 14 months old and had been running for about 4 months he just started hunting way out he would be by you one moment and gone the next and i mean gone he would go way out then after about 2-3 weeks of this he went back to normal he hunts fairly close the way he acted it was like he was just going through a fas. but your dog being older i would shock him when he got out to far to reel him back into range.

I don't know if this would work now, but when my I'm starting a pup I drive around at one of running area's until I see a rabbit cross the road and then turn em' loose, I do this over and over with my pups so they get use to hunting close to me but don't do this to much because then the pup will always depend on you to find the rabbit.
