Re: Remember when this board
I have no objection to keeping a tighter rein on the silliness, and keeping the board productive. And by silliness, I mean stuff like BBB's last long thread, and other stuff that just wastes database space. But, my biggest obstacle is also time. I don't have enough in the day anymore.
As I'm sure most of you know by now, I went from work-at-home magazine publisher with all day and night available to look in on this place, to being single again, selling the magazine, and taking another job in the corporate world. (A girl's gotta have insurance) My schedule is no longer my own. Plus, I sort of commute to work, which makes my day very long. And then I'm trying to care for an old property on my own (lotsa maintenance always needed). I'm sure those things have a lot to do with the board slowly creeping away from what it used to be. When I had more time, I filtered a lot of the junk, and did more hands-on moderation - much of it behind the scenes. And I was consistently unpopular among the "noisy minority," who will totally take over the place if left unchecked.
Therefore, feel free to be tattletales when posters are creating an unproductive climate, or being totally disrespectful. Together we can gear the board in a better direction. I will clear my pm box for the future incoming, lol. Debating is fun and still welcome. It's what makes the world go 'round, but it can be done respectfully, without getting personal.
I also reserve the right to fail at my own policies (I'm only human), and you are welcome to remind me; I just ask that you do that respectfully, too.
The patiotism/politics forum is exempt. Pretty much anything goes there except extreme profanity, death threats and other libelous/traitorous remarks, so be warned. It's a place to vent, so if your feelings are easily hurt, stay out of there.

You're doing a fine job Bev. We as a group of adults and individuals need to govern ourselves. We shouldn't look for a whistle to know there has been a foul. We know the rules of this board and should keep this in mind every time we log in.

Re: Remember when this board
Bev,
It just goes to show how far outside the loop I have been and for how long. The summary of what life has been like for you is all news to me. It goes to my point though, in that many of us on this site who date back ten plus years have not been standing idle. Time is always in short supply, and the "insurance" thing is also something that has dictated most of my professional and personal path and decisions for the past 34 years. It has always boggled my mind that if you are dirt poor (I was) you get health insurance, if your rich enough (I will likely never be)you pay as you go and don't sweat it, but if you are a hard working, struggling to keep your family fed and roof over their head type (I am), you have to pray (I do) no one in the house gets sick lest you risk losing everything. If you do get a job that provides decent, affordable insurance you become stuck there forever for fear of losing it. (I have)
It came to me thinking back on the summer I spent working on my uncles farm that his house was in pretty rough shape, his barn was a little better than the house, and the equipment was old and frequently breaking down. There was not a lot of money for those things. However, the cows were always kept in beautiful healthy condition and never went without good care, including medical treatment when needed. The reason was simple and good business sense. The cows were the producers of the "milk check", the cows generated the income for the farm to exist and without the cows there could be no farm. No matter where a person stands on this issue, it only makes good business sense to keep those who produce as healthy as possible. Anyway, off my soap box..................Bev you have a nice site and it's pretty clear that I and others appreciate your efforts and generosity in providing it. You should not have to be a babysitter as a full time job in addition to your other job. I think the whistle blowing idea (if it is helpful) may be a way to go, so long as you don't get upset if on occasion we whistle out of tune. LOL! Oh yeh........it does need a like button!
Peace,
NYH

Re: Remember when this board
i guess i will just look at the glass as being half full. the good people that i have met on this board have outweighed the bad apples by a long shot. i have not been on here too long so i don't know what it was like way back when. i still think it's a great website, ya just gotta weed through the good and bad people, posts and info. you can always use the ignore option, it works awesome.
Re: Remember when this board
Lots of good people on here , lots of good imfo too , Im just a simple rabbit hunter , have a few rabbit dogs and just enjoy getting outside too breath some fresh air and enjoy some peice and quiet. ive been sucked into the arguing more than once , just dont like it when someone tries to push beliefs on me or anyone else , been at this stuff long enough to know there are a million ways to do everything that pertains to rabbit dogs and rabbit hunting , it is all preference. I understand that alot of people take this stuff way more serious than i do , i just try to keep it simple , thats why i dont post alot , dont have alot to post , the way i do it is pretty simple and staight forward , just run my dogs
