John,
My first post on this thread was directed to Kyblue. Kyblue was asking this " The dogs I watched run seemed a lot slower than mine. By this I mean I could walk beside them while they run. Do they have any trial there for a med to med fast dog?"
Thats why I asked him why he wants to join this club if his dogs are faster. If he is looking for a club that is meduim to meduim fast, then Silver Creek isn't for his dogs. Maybe the Midwest Federation or ARHA LP or PP is right for his dogs. Him being in Ky, I am sure he can find a few clubs in Kentucky.
Now lets say Kyblue isn't into field trialing, he just wants to become a member at Silver Creek. Wants to run dogs in that pen or start pups in it, pays his dues and helps with the club. I really believe the people down at Silver Creek isn't gonna turn their backs on him. They are great people who opens up their doors and pens to everyone at this silver creek picnic. Like Foxxy said earlier, at three rivers they have a few members who don't field trial their slower dogs, they use the running pens. There are tons of beaglers who don't field trial, that I am sure belong to a club that their dogs don't fit in. I bet if they do start field trialing they will either find dogs that fit their club's format or federation or go outside their club to trial.
KyBlue I hope you find a club and become a member. If you felt like I was coming on like I knew everything then I am sorry. Just trying to help you out. I posted a link below of the MWBGF (Midwest Beagle Gundog Federation) there is a list of the clubs, there are a few in Kentucky.

Re: Silver creek beagle club trials
Here's something to think about. Most UBGF clubs have their own running grounds, or they borrow the running private grounds of a member. This is not an inexpensive thing to maintain. There are fences to repair, game to protect and raise, ground maintenance, taxes and insurance, clubhouse repairs, etc. It's never cheap to own property - especially property large enough to run field trials safely, within an enclosure. Somebody has to pay for that, and somebody has to do the work. Membership dues will not cover all of that. It just won't. Clubs get the bulk of their money from entry fees to their trials, and from extra fundraisers like Silver Creek's picnic.
Now what incentive do they have to take in members they know darn well are not going to give them entry fees, or participate/work in their trials because their dogs don't fit or even come close to the format? A person who fits that description who thinks he should be able to pay a yearly fee so he can get in there and run the club's rabbits to death has got to be kidding. Beagle clubs are not the local YMCA for your dog. They exist to promote the trials and dogs that they commonly enjoy. I'm with Ron Conroe on this. Go buy your own grounds if you can't feasibly or don't want to trial there.

Bev at least we can agree on one thing here we all now those dogs aint gonna run one to death!!Bev wrote:so he can get in there and run the club's rabbits to death has got to be kidding. .

all that being said i appreciate and TOLERATE all beagles and beaglers and would run with anyone that has beagles and even those that do not!! i have helped people find dogs that i would never own, i have hooked people up with other fellow beaglers just because we ran different styles and thought they would be better taught and have more fun because of the similar style of dogs they ran!! i have never turned a fellow beagler away or told them sorry cant help you BECAUSE THEY RAN ANOTHER STYLE OF DOG!!!
Simply put if you run BEAGLES or your looking to get into beagles give me a call we will have a great time and i can get you in touch with some people who may run your style or where to get a few!! 317-519-3731
~~~end of this thread for me~~~
Bev I thought your clip of the SPO nats was good but i always wonder why the Judges are behind or on the side of the pack? Do they actually get alot of marked lines? Maybe this clip was a bad example of a spo trial .
A club is a group of private members with the full right and authority to accept and or reject whatever they want as it is a PRIVATE club. I believe Casey was right on and was merely trying to help a fellow beagler out.
I did have coon hounds, belonged to a club and it's true that they never turned down a single person who wanted to join BUT the coon club never owned ALL the ground it took to run/ train coon hounds. They did have some woods but not nearly enough for coon hounds to be tuned up or started in. This is like comparing apples to oranges as coon hounds merely struck, run and treed coon or they didn't and how they did it made no difference but beagling has so many different styles or formats so I can understand why a club would cater to what they promote as that is the basis or foundation of their club.
I also competition hunted coon hounds and cast were sent off of the club property to hunt on PRIVATE or public property in which the club had nothing to maintain financially. Private property became more and more of a problem to find in which casts could be hunted, to the point that driving an hour away to do so became the norm and not the exception. I bought some acerage put up coon feeders, trapped,released and started pups for a few years until it became evident that traveling all this distance to run in competition was going to get even worse as well as the other BS that went with competition I quit coon hounds and went back to running the small hounds more. I never competition hunted beagles and had no idea of the vast differences in the styles and or formats as I always figured that running a rabbit was like running coon, the dog found their game and put and end to it either in a tree, hole, brush pile or with the gun. When the sun went down, how they got er done was merely by listening to the voice and had nothing to do with, speed, style, line control, losses, sqirting, swinging and any of that other stuff. the only thing that mattered was finding and accounting for the coon. I understand why clubs are clubs and that they are formed by a group of guys that like the same thing in these little guys and if I were to get into competition of beagles I would certainly look to find something where the dogs I had fit in. Now, beings I like any beagle style that accounts ofr it's game it would be my responsibility to know where my dogs fit in. I'd surely like to have folks like Casey trying to help with advise.
Darryl, they do indeed get a lot of marked lines. For one thing that place is loaded with game, and secondly, at that time of the year the sericea grass isn't entirely greened up yet, and we can often see the rabbit from the ground. Judges on horseback get the birdseye view. It's not the best video clip, but that's the camera person's fault. Every time she steps out into that brush in April she brings home a deer tick or two that end up getting embedded and infected, lol. So most clips are going to be what she can see from the road.Darryl wrote:Bev I thought your clip of the SPO nats was good but i always wonder why the Judges are behind or on the side of the pack?
