Agree 1000% there are some faults I will tolerate to an extent,if a dog is good enough. But one that is to dumb,or not enough self control to keep its mouth shut untill the rabbit is up and running isn't one of them. Also while in a check they need to be quiet untill they line it back out. Can't deal with it.....bigdogpace wrote:I HAVE READ ALL THIS AND EXTRA MOUTH IS WHY I HUNT BY MYSELF MOST OF THE TIME THERE IS ONLY AFEW I WILL HUNT WITH AND THEY R RUNNING THE SAME TYPE DOG I AM NO EXTRA MOUTH I HATE IT . i rabbit hunt only and my dogs give xtra, but will bring the rabbit back to the gun almost every time, isnt that what its all about. for me my dogs are solid gun dogs.no trash and handle great with out e collers, so a little xtra is no big deal. people who trial live by a different code and thats fine, but for me i woud go crazy trying to have or boost about that perfect dog!!

bodetis say,,,,s
i would think a a guy that does nothin buut gun hunt,,,would rather have a more honest dog.... i've done a lot of gun hunting ,,, and i never could stand a mouthy dog in the woods it seems like you would get tired of the extra mouth not knowing when they have it up or when there just babbling...dont you get tired of cocking your gun? i dont mean to to be negative or step on anyones toes... i just find it intreging to hear other hunters takes on rabbit hunting.. with a gun or just pleasure running or even the trialers...bodetis wrote:i rabbit hunt only and my dogs give xtra, but will bring the rabbit back to the gun almost every time, isnt that what its all about. for me my dogs are solid gun dogs.no trash and handle great with out e collers, so a little xtra is no big deal. people who trial live by a different code and thats fine, but for me i woud go crazy trying to have or boost about that perfect dog!!

Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
i mostly gun hunt and i cant stand a dog that constantly barks on feeder tracks or that one that will run a track all by its self and rarely produce.the ones that i run are as honest as they come.when they bark there is fur on the run.i dont like to sit and wonder if the next track they run across will be runnable or not.

Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
did i say babbling, no i said xtra. my dogs will hit before its up then raise cane when its up and going.they do produce the rabbit. and being a gun hunter only means i could care less about a little xtra, cause i dont worry about some judge docking points.my dogs are jumping up and running the rabbits as good as any dog out there. 4 a person thats in the sport of field trials then fine have that perfect dog,but i bet most who want that tight liped dog, are ones that trial. ones that hunt like me could really care less. im just out there doing what me and my hounds love to do and thats rabbit hunt!See low wrote:bodetis say,,,,si would think a a guy that does nothin buut gun hunt,,,would rather have a more honest dog.... i've done a lot of gun hunting ,,, and i never could stand a mouthy dog in the woods it seems like you would get tired of the extra mouth not knowing when they have it up or when there just babbling...dont you get tired of cocking your gun? i dont mean to to be negative or step on anyones toes... i just find it intreging to hear other hunters takes on rabbit hunting.. with a gun or just pleasure running or even the trialers...bodetis wrote:i rabbit hunt only and my dogs give xtra, but will bring the rabbit back to the gun almost every time, isnt that what its all about. for me my dogs are solid gun dogs.no trash and handle great with out e collers, so a little xtra is no big deal. people who trial live by a different code and thats fine, but for me i woud go crazy trying to have or boost about that perfect dog!!
Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
There are so many quotes, double quotes and even a triple quote, I can't tell who said what to what. Somebody start another thread so we can begin over and repeat everything without these quotes.

Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
stay with us Buck,,, im sure with your intelect you are not having any trouble....
Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
bodetis .. i can tolerate a few barks before the rabbit is up... but just a few... but i would sure rather that they not say a word until there running... wouldnt you?
Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
extra barking is not something i want for my dogs to do but not all barks are the same. when trailing up to a rabbit or in check area with poor scenting a whimper or a quick pop is not a babbling idiot but extra mouth. i also have seen dogs come running to other dogs because their sniffing or tail wagging has picked up in intensity.would this also be a bad trait? dogs with brains will learn to deal with a dog that has extra mouth.do you feel extra mouth is bad for the dogs to deal with or do you as a person not like it? me as a person i dont like it. but if i go hunting with a group of guys and everyone brings a couple dogs, and i have a dog that jumps most of the rabbits leads the pack and gets more checks than any other dog, ill walk back to the truck at the end of the day with a big smile on my face while everyone else complains about my dogs extra mouth not being something they can live with.

Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
Great Quote Norshore, guess my question is why would anyone cock there gun before they see fur anyway? Unless its to blow a mouthy azz dogs brains out.Norshore wrote:I don't cock my gun till I see fur----------just saying.See low wrote:bodetis say,,,,si would think a a guy that does nothin buut gun hunt,,,would rather have a more honest dog.... i've done a lot of gun hunting ,,, and i never could stand a mouthy dog in the woods it seems like you would get tired of the extra mouth not knowing when they have it up or when there just babbling...dont you get tired of cocking your gun? i dont mean to to be negative or step on anyones toes... i just find it intreging to hear other hunters takes on rabbit hunting.. with a gun or just pleasure running or even the trialers...bodetis wrote:i rabbit hunt only and my dogs give xtra, but will bring the rabbit back to the gun almost every time, isnt that what its all about. for me my dogs are solid gun dogs.no trash and handle great with out e collers, so a little xtra is no big deal. people who trial live by a different code and thats fine, but for me i woud go crazy trying to have or boost about that perfect dog!!
