Had a guy PM me about my question to BradWv about if his pups were started yet. Before it gets out of hand and I am accused of not knowing what I am talking about , maybe the person who sent me the Pm should listen to what I am about to say as he is obviously ignorant in a process that we here in this part of Wv are very familiar with, and all of the old time coon hunters around here used it and actually culled dogs less than ten days old due their confidence in this method. By started I didn't mean are they running, chrimaney sakes, they are only two days old. BradWv knows what I mean. Here it is. You take the pups out and put them on the ground prior to them being 8 days old. You take a fresh rabbit foot and rub it all over the rabbit and then make a circle around the pups, just a small circle, You then watch the pups, You will be amazed at the pups that will stop crawling right on this line and refuse to move any further. The ones that crawl on after two or three attempts are usually culled. Do not do this on extremely hot or cold days as it is not reliable at these times. I don't keep what we call a "Crawler"

GW,

It's post like this that make me step back and go hmmmm. Having known each other since we were kids and runnin dogs together more than I would like to admit to, you know that a like a little different style dog than you. While I do use the technique that you described, I cull differently. I like a faster harder driving dog than you and don't mind a little over running, thus when I use the method, I more often than not cull the ones that stop at the line.

It really brings to light how people can use the same methods, watch the same dog run etc and come away with different opinions on how they work and what they saw. Kinda makes you go hmmm.
