Re: Dead Mouths
We have probably owned them all at one time or the other from squills to squalls to bawls to poodle mouths to chops. My favorite is a big course chop mouth. However my Dads Timber Creek Fly Girl had a long crying mouth that was fairly unique and a joy to listen too.You could pick her out of any pack.

Re: Dead Mouths
I have a young patch hound that does everything right, hunts hard, good line control, good check work, and quite in the kennel. When on a track solo she has a great voice but when in a pack she only opens to a full bark when up in the front or picks up a check, when sloted in she has a week voice kind of like a cluck. She is a year old and I think she will get better at this, but if not she will still stay as she contributes alot to my pack. Re: GW your last post to this thread. We are discussing semantics here. I meant what I said, a good dog in a pack of good dogs but with a blending mouth has a blending mouth. If I have 3 or 4 and all with the same kinda mouth, I will soon be separating some of them. I rose in a bed of roses is just a rose but put it in a weed patch and it is beautiful. I said at the beginning that this thread was for the purist. A good, live mouth comes is many melodies and tones and it will depend upon what you are running him with.
Re: Dead Mouths
Augerhead: Your metaphors are getting mixed. My thread is about dead mouths. You are trying to change it to "me tooers" and defining a "rabbit dog". What I do is sit at the truck and listen to my dogs at night. You try to chase them around in the dark. If you aren't experienced enough to tell what is going on out there than any old dog or mouth will suit you fine. If you don't care enough to own the very best, than any old dog will also suit you fine. I own a lot of dogs. It can get awful boring out every night with the same old dry, dead mouths. Get a good dog with a good mouth, and you can tip your hat and scream all you want.

Big dog, I am sure I agree with you but tell me if you sent this from your cell phone? Looks like a text message and I have trouble reading it.

Re: Dead Mouths
Dogs with a stand out voice are nice to have and make it easier to follow from a distance for sure, But it's the last thing I worry about when I add a dog or contemplate if a dog stays or goes. If all else is good I'll forgive an average mouth.

Otherwise seems healthy. Sorry to hi jack your post.

Re: Dead Mouths
I love a standout mouth on a dog. i pleasure run more than i trial. i want to hear mine when it barks even if we are running 6 or 8 dogs. About everything I keep will standout in anybodys pack. they will standout when they make a mistake too, but I can live with that. Id sure like to have me another 1 with that high tenor fast foxhound chop.
