Easy, don't get excited LOL......He hit a old woodchuck hole. Yes that's a ecollar and tracking collar on him. I don't run ANY hounds without either!!! At most of my running spots, if dogs would take a notion to run deer they could head into sections that are MILES through with lots of wolves in between. I do what ever is necessary to keep a handle on things.
Would you have noticed and mentioned it if it hadn't been a patch hound??
He is starting to work checks better and is also slowing his hunt down instead of just racing around the woods, wich I think is makeing him a better hound. Swamp said with age he should start settling down and running to his nose's potential instead of his legs. Lots of times I have seen him run to the front of the pack then not be able to handle it.
Not sure if my brother is going to keep him or not but he will make someone a nice hound.

Up in Maine this fall. Alot of the same blood on the ground. My male Jack across the line first followed by father, gmother, mother, half sister. It was the Friday afternoon of our week in Maine, the six diehards took the fast pack out in the afternoon, while the rest packed for home. Ended up shooting this hare with my pistol. Dogs ate half of it by the time I got there.

Woa! Lets keep this about the hound and it's welfare. The goal here is to make a serviceable hound, not about what "excites me".

I like the way Rick is taking his time with the other pup, he is bring him along nicely, should have fun with the field trials. Rick seems to have a real eye for the hound and how to read him to bring out the best... he might make you and him both a champion...
