Wayne and i rabbit hunted in the late 70 ths and didnt know what a compition hunt was. we went to tenn and hunted with Bobby Vest in feb of 1988 and had a ball. on the way home we decided to go to our first arha hunt in hyden ky. it was the ky state hunt had 56 opens it was march of 1988. i won it with a female i called Pepper Wayne got 7th with her litter mate called Rock. need less to say we were hooked on the hunts. dont know how many we went to after that. in 1993 we won the world hunt together and are on the cover of the rabbit hunter together.Wayne won the champs and me the grands. i have a picture of that hunt hung on my wall. one of the best friends i have ever had. Jimmy and Bob ever thing you said about him was so true and then some. he sure will be missed by me. and a lot more. Earl Bruner

I actually met Earl and Wayne about the same time. Not a moment to soon. Bobby came a year or so later but us boys have been a tight knit bunch, Wayne and Earl got the shelby Co club up and going and we probaly only had 20 active members at times but the little club produced 6-7 world hunt wins and various top ten world hunt winners, Everyone loved to come to shelby co , plenty of running, judges and hospitality........ I still consider SCBC My home base club and it dissolved years ago. Ya know shelbyville lost a great man yesterday and we all lost a great friend , i am not sure what i do from here but i will do it, i could tell pages on Wayne what a great great man, going to Waynes house and Earls house is kinda like stepping into a museum for beaglers with trophies and plaques just everywhere.
I actually dreamed of ol days gone by last night it was the Indiana State Hunt Wayne won the grands with Amy I won the champs With Jackson And Scott Spicer won the opens with Sumthing. Ya know years ago i was in Indiana with Wayne i think it was just a club hunt but i had never won a hunt and i will be damned if i didnt win the open class with jackson after gathering my 3" trophie i walked out front and there stood Wayne, Earl and Patrica clapping for me, that was awesome as it gets. I still own that trophie and always will.
I have made and lost some great friends with these little hounds but this one hurts me the most, I worked all day today and been thinking alot on what to say or do i am at a loss for words, i called Mary Jo and we spoke but there was so much going on in her house and her voice was weak, the conversation was just words too say the least. I have laid off from beagling for a while and put my efforts into family and work, i told shorty i think its about too change, I will be 50 soon i dont judge anymore, but i still know how to win i think the beagle monster has awoke in me and it time time to do something in Waynes Honor, I just wanna be able to give back a piece of what has been given to me and so many others. Its all about Love and Respect.

Sorry to hear the news about Wayne, he was truly a great beagler. I met him back in the early 2000's, and he had a wealth of knowledge. Drew out a couple of times with him at big hunts, and he always packed power. RIP old Buddy.

Bobby Vest wrote:Wayne won the ARHA World hunt twice, about every state hunt around and I think he won 3 maybe 4 or maybe all of the big 5 hunts. The last big hunt I got to go to with Wayne I believe was the Virginia State 3 years ago. Four of us loaded the dogs and took off and I had one of the best times I have ever had.
Very sorry to hear about this. He was and still is a true houndsman. I had the privilege to compete against and judge a particular female that he had that stands out in my mind… if I remember correctly, I believe it was back in 1993, a female named Sally. He was so proud of that dog and had every right to be. I remember thinking to myself; “the way this guy feels about his dog and the way he enjoys beagling is what this sport is all about”. Our thoughts & prayers to his family & friends.

Thanks alot that hound Sally went into the HOF. Wayne won the big 4 at that time with 4 different hounds quite a accomplishment to say the least, aint been done before or since. Wayne had a eye for winning more so than breeding.

i cant get the picture to come up either. hey laneline that Sally female Wayne had is the one he won the world with in 1993. she was a good one for sure. Wayne was one of the best i ever knew for picking out the talent of a dog. Jimmy was right he bought most of the best dogs he ever had. he sold that Cecil dog to Mark Stump in the early 90s for 4000.00. i was there when he was paid and it was all 100.00 dollar bills but the last 2 bills were 50.00. Wayne made a statement saying he hated to put them with all them 100.00 bills and acted like he was going to toss them out the window. i said just throw them over to me. he smiled and put them in his wallet. funny how we remenber little thing like that. i have been thinking about a lot of little things since he has passed away. he was one of a kind for sure.

Thought a lot of Wayne and had lot of respect for him as a beagler! He is one of our true legends of little pack, that will always be remembered along with his hounds with the highest respect in my book! I remember going to a trial with my buddy Matt Hunt and on the way, the George Jones song "Who's going to feel their shoes" came on the radio and we started putting our own words to it about trialing people and Wayne was one of the names we used along with you Earl. R.I.P. Wayne and while I know we'll never do it, we continue trying to fill your shoes in little pack!

Wayne was a pretty good basketball player too. He started at center his senior year for Shelby Co. and I was on the freshman team. I think he played some semi pro too.
