Well said john. There are a lot of people that will breed a so so female to a top sire and expect the best for the pups but breed a top female to a top sire and your chances get a lot better and even this is not a sure thing.johns03272008 wrote:I love how everyone blames the sire for pups not turning out!!! what about the pot licker females that kennel blind guys have that think they are great that get bred to a sire and when the pups don't turn out everyone debates why a dog is a top sire!!!

I would have to say if you look at all the pups on the ground out of a dogthat gets bread one a week there will be good and bad in them all some of the best stud dogs are dogs that no one has even heard of ! I like big named do g as well as any one but do want a dog with a name or want one that will smoke a rabbit my choice so i will take a rabbit dog papers cant smoke a rabbit
Re: Top Sire
Mountain Man was bred to atleast 5 different females out of his 13 litters and produced FC's with all of them (haunted hill squeler, awful bawlin hoser, haunted hill artimis, awful bawlin agnes, dog barking babe) When I think of females other than Hoser, the Squirrel Creek females come to mind (Ninja females) IFC Maravics Blue Ninja had some pretty good percentages as well 42 litters 48 FC's.

Me personally, i think a dog that probably has over 1500 hounds on the ground and less than 10 field champions is not a top sire. maybe you guys that think its just a pot licker females fault should contact sparky or eddy, and they can help you out with their knowledge on breeding. JMO tho and what do i know.

Re: Top Sire
Well boys I'm sure there is a lot of sires out there that could have been the top but you have to get breedings to do that it's all part of the game and I'm sure that the guys at better beagling who has had Reggie and Viagra top 1 and 2 for the past 2 years know what there doing and if I'm going to ask someone about how to breed I'm going to go with one of the old timers that have been producing AKC F C time and time again and I no its not all of them but the old guys that i know that no what there doing have and still are breeding to Reggie for some reason. So I really don't no why there is always this big discussion about this ill be the first to say that I have seen some dogs out of both the top sires that are worthless but on the other hand I have seen the nicest dogs that I have ever seen out of the same 2. So who knows the best way to determine the top sire but in my eyes who cares I've seen and owned dogs out of both and they are hard to beat that's for sure.

I'm beginning to think this is another Reggie debate!!! Funny thing is a lot of offspring is placing and winning in all formats!! Enough said!!likeemfast wrote:Me personally, i think a dog that probably has over 1500 hounds on the ground and less than 10 field champions is not a top sire. maybe you guys that think its just a pot licker females fault should contact sparky or eddy, and they can help you out with their knowledge on breeding. Re: Top Sire
Seems like every time a topic of top sire comes up it just gives the Reggie bashers a chance to fire at him and as stated he has some of his offspring placing and winning in all formats. Either you love him or hate him and me personally, I love him. I have had several dogs out of Reggie and have a good one now but I am also thinking about trying a Junie dog and a Green bay dog. I have seen some good ones out of all of these dogs.
Everyone talks about how many times Reggie has been bred and I wonder how many champions he would have if all his offspring were trialed. I have seen more of his offspring being just gun hunted than I have seen in trials and a lot of the ones that are just gun hunted are very trial worthy and can hold their own against any champ in any format so if you are talking percentages you should just count the ones that are being trialed, not just by Reggie but by any sire.

Re: Top Sire
WOW, sorry guys, as a fairly new member to the board i didnt realize the fact that Reggie cant produce field champions was a hot topic on here before. WITH over 1500 offspring on the ground i would hope he would have hounds with places. Im also not taking anything away from how he runs, im just going by all the garbage i see for sale, Reggie male, Reggie female for sale over and over and over and over. You see all those culls being passed on instead of actually culling them permanently. Thats all im done. One more thing. if my fat
ran enough races as ive stated before i would get some places too so dont hang your hat on a couple places with over 1500 hounds on the ground, show the field champions. He may be one heck of a hound be he dont produce them. Now im done again.

My opinion....
I feel the reason that sire's get the bad rap is due to the money spent on them, plus the brucellios (spelling?) test you have to get to have the female bred. Take this for an example, the Miami heat brung in Lebron James and Chris Bosh to their team to improve them as a whole. They figured these two players plus Dwayne Wade and the others would be enough to win a championship. Well, they didn't, who got the blame??? Lebron James got most of it, since they paid him so much to come there. Bosh got some of the blame for his lack of offensive presence and Lebron's lack of leadership in close games. They didn't really give much blame to any other player, including Dwade. Why?? Cause the money they spent on the two players.
I think these stud dogs get the worse end since the beaglers who bring in their females to get these "so called awesome pups" on the ground. When they don't get pups to their liking, they blame the sire since they spent money on getting that one in the lifetime pup. Plus it doesn't help much when these stud ads pump these studs up real high... Advertising can be a killer sometimes. Beaglers wanting to get that special pup needs to remember it's not always going to happen with any big or small name stud dog. Keep an open mind and like someone said cull hard!!!
my 02 cents!
