Ya know everyone talks about the best the greatest and the hardest hunters, Lets go the other way what hound Male or Female was the Swinging SOB That could make the pack pay and ya hated to run against them. I will start LPGRCH-Hof-Sly Doggs Dan the Crusher, I seen him at the world one year he swung out of the pack went to another pack and scored for 20 mins before they caught him, I looked at Pete Baker and just shook my head. That ol Yellar dog could absolutly Kill a pack of Hounds. Whats Yours?

Swickert Hills Cookie....always hated being in a pack with her. She didn't reach real bad but man she could kill a pack and not leave any checks for anyone else to get. If she was doing it right she would have the dogs so flustered that they were worthless the rest of the trial....if she got hooked for reaching the pack was still mentally destroyed.

I agree on Cookie, But I have a big male that can absoluty leave the pack & shut em down! But he goes swingin & when he gets out once its all over but the cryin!

Bruner's Big Ben could swing so far and so accurate at times he could destroy a pack. I also have to say I watched him solo a rabbit in a tobacco patch when it was over 95 degrees and put on a show I have never seen the likes of.

HOF LPGRCH O's HC Blue Rose (Call name Annie)

It has been many moons ago, but she was a slashing, cutting, swinging,skirting, mouthy, crazy little female that could leave dogs wanting to run another rabbit. She often caught rabbits because she would leave the pack to cut them off like a Large Pack judge then had the footspeed to run them down at times. She would also slip the line at times when the pack got closer on her, and then scream bloody murder when she knew she got some distance on them. I can recall several times gun hunting with her and the dogs would be hammering coming at us and all of sudden there is Annie ahead of the dogs and the rabbit looking for Mr. Cottontail. She messed up many a chase, but it was somewhat fun to watch her do her thing. I didn't like her style and we quit hunting her with the rest of our dogs, but she could fool many eyes if they didn't know what she was doing.lol One time at a trial when I was there watching the rabbit ran by and Annie was on top of it and one man said, "Man that little dog is smoking that pack, she is forty yards ahead of them." Little did he know she had cut the pack off to do what she was doing. He never did figure it out either by the end of the cast.

In her defense, she was one of the grittiest little dogs I have ever been around, and believe it or not, she didn't lose many rabbits either. She was only about 12 inches and could run ALL day with the big boys. Of couse, she cheated, but could do it. She would stop at a thicket if she got there first, which she did most of the time, and howl to get another dog to go through while she went around the backside looking for the rabbit. Once the dog was halfway through the thicket she knew the rabbit had been through and would put her nose down and grab it on the other side and leave them again. She was a smart little cheater, and I have never been around another dog that caught that many rabbits. Of course, most true line running dogs are not going to run a rabbit down and do it honestly, they will have to cut corners most of the time to get there.

Thanks for bringing back some memories, even though I hated little Annie's style, you still had to give her some respect that little cheating booger!! If she was still around I would still like to see her do it one more time even though I would be shaking my head in disgust.

Yeah, there used to be a big male in the Mid-West like this. I won't name any names cause I wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings for it. I used to have nightmares & actually pray that I wouldn't draw out in first series with him. After first series , he was usually gone unless he somehow got lucky & the judges didnt catch him. He was in every tral for 2 solid years it seemed like. The only checkwork were dogs trying to locate that dog ;man he could ruin a good young dog & a smooth rabbit race. He was a legend though on the "dark side".
