What made you think anyone here would know how to train $750.00 pup. ;) We mostly deal in Flea Mkt pups, much easier to start.

Katelyn,
I'm training 1 pup right now and it seems i have my hands full trying to get her the field time she deserves. I'd say if your gut says the dog hasnt got it dont waist to much time .JMO.From reading your post it reminds me of something my dad has always told me and he is 69 years of age today."Why waist your time with something else when you have better at home".And it sounds like Sonic and the stuff your are getting outta him is what i'd put my time into.Again JMO.
PS-I've seen him in the better beagling results and he is a nice looking hound.

Well, I got the same problem. Rescued 2 pups that needed a good home over a year and half ago. Nice looking tri-colors. One has a mouth on him and the other a pretty good looking dog. I have been working with both and just can't seem to get them going. I am not the best trainer but I know enough to get them started at least. One will stay at your feet and the other I can't figure out what is he doing. Right now, they are just certified pot lickers. Would like to move on but just can't bring myself to give up on them. Thinking about finding someone with a big rabbit pen and trying that.

If you will put them pups in a starting pen with a good supply of rabbits every evening around dark and leave them all night til morning they will start on their own quickly. If they dont, they just plain dont have it in them. I use to try and start pups in the wild or I would go stand in the starting pen with them and try to help them start. Now, I know a guy that has several pens and I take all my pups to him at around 6 months old. He leaves them in the running pen all night every night and leaves a bucket of water to drink at the gate. Almost every pup that I bring to him starts in the first couple of nights. If they dont start in 2 weeks or less after living in a pen full of rabbits every night, somebody is fixing to get a free pup from me. Sometimes they just dont have it, and my buddy that starts mine always says "they cant give you what they ain't got".

He hass been in a lot, my pups were catchin rabbits all over the place & jumpin rabbit after rabbit ,sometimes 3 diff. rabbits goin at the same time! the dog juss dont have it! he is runnin inna pen with a 4 1/2" month old female outta Sonic ,an I can hear her poundin', I dont hear him! HOLD! Ohh; Well I left the computer walked out on the porch an he is barkin at her when she went by him! i dont know what to do! ill leave them in the all night! he stepped on one ealier an wouldnt run it ,so i went an got her ,she hasnt ever seen a rabbit ,I figured they'd start there selves ,I put her in there ,kicked a rabbit up ,let her see it & she sight chased it for about 100 yards an lost sight ,then she went to runin around tryin to find it an jumped another one & has been poundin for 2 hours now!!!
