Large Knot On Neck HELP !!

The puncture was under my dogs tongue. I had to take him in to get a pile of porcupine quills removed the day after he got the big lump on his neck. I had the vet check it all over while they had him asleep and that is when the vet found the puncture. I didnt know there was that piece of stick in it until over a month later when i was cleaning one of the spots that was letting the puss out. I see this thing sticking out that looked like a stick. I grabed a pare of pliers and pulled on it and ended up pulling 2 pieces out. The swelling had gone down a lot from when it first showed up. It seemed like everytime it would start getting bigger it would get hard and he would scratch at it until it started draining. Otherwise the lump felt soft and you couldnt feel anything in it when you squeezed it.

I'm gonna try to look again. its kinda hard looking under his tongue though. he moves around on me. I'm goning to see if someone can help me hold him down. But i have seen a big difference. It looks like its almost all drained out.

The vet told me when my hound had a stick jabbed in his throat, it had to happen when he was opening on track. His knot was the size of your dog's knot, but mine was on the side of the neck. Keep draining (milking his neck) and it "should" eventually come to a head and come out. Kind of like briars stuck in our legs, if left alone they will fester, but eventually come out. I had a friend that his hound's head had a knot on it the size of a fist. It eventually popped out a thorn that had lodged itself in the dog's head. Good luck.

It's kind of weird, but I am having a problem similar to your dogs. Sunday I developed a tooth ache. Yesterday I went to the dentist and the x rays showed that I had an absess under my left rear, lower molar.
The dentist gave me a prescription for amoxicillin. Last night I had a bad fever and the absess burst open next to the molar. It made a big gaping hole.
This morning my lymph nodes swelled up making my neck stick out further then my jaw. I can tell you that lymph nodes definitely feel hard. I am scheduled for surgery next Wednesday after the infection is supposed to clear up.

my male had a softball size knot on his neck my vet said it was a snakebite, dog bites snake, snake turns and bites dog, usually around the neck. gave me antibiotics and it cleared up in about a week

Keith C. that right there is exactly what I have been describing. Animals and people normally show the same symptoms when it comes to these type things. I'll bet that left lymphnode was swollen rock hard but the right one wasn't swollen at all as the left one fights the infection on that side and the right ones fights on the right side. I'll also bet that you could tell a major difference in the feel of the abcess and that of the lymphnode.

Wardog, you are correct.
The left lymph node was rock hard and enormous and the right one seemed normal.
The absess hurt a lot the lymph node was just a little sore.

i remember brian unroe almost lost his fc ohio river tuck dog over the same thing a few years ago.. he ran a stick in his throat and it swelled up like that.. they drained it numerous times i believe and had a drain tube in it at one point and pounded him with antibiotics... vet ended up digging pcs of splintered wood out of his throat on two different occassions.. hope your guys dogs recover well!!! joey, was this your butkus male? or a different one?

How Ironic, Just read this post the other day. took my 17 month old out for a run with a friend today, came home and he looked a little more tired then usual. when i went to feed him he didn't take to his food like normal and went and layed down. Not his character at all. When I looked him over, he had a lump under his jaw. When I opened his mouth to inspest I could feel the stick or something lodge in the tissue under the tongue. It was pretty red and inflamed. Off to the Vet we went, and 516.00 later. that could be the problem. good luck!
