Any advice on a broken Silverado tailgate?
Tailgate won't open. It's gonna be hard to load up dogs next weekend! Any advice appreciated before I get the cutting torch out. LOL

I don't know about your tailgate but some have a plate on the inside of the tailgate that you can take off and get to the handle latches from the inside

If its the latch then the part to fix it is only about 35 bucksdepending on the year.also one of the wires/cables could have just slipped off and you might not even need the new part

Maple Valley probably has the expertise to know what he's talkin about so I'd go with what he told you. I don't know but I think that's what he does and if so that's like E.F. Hutton speaking to my ears, I listen!

Thanks for the advice guys. I will pull the plate this afternoon and take a look. I've got nothing against Fords or Tundras but I love my Chevrolet. Honestly, its been the best truck I've ever owned. 10 years, almost 200k miles, and going strong.
Re: Any advice on a broken Silverado tailgate?
Like JIMMIE said , pull the latch , think it has 3 or 4 screws on the inside ( bed side ) they are star heads , you will see 2 small rods that hook to each side of the latchs ,the rod have a plastic keeper ( on mine 1 was red & 1 was green ) this determines what side or latch it operates . I'd say 1 of the keepers have broken or maybe just come off . easy and not expensive fix . On mine the bezel around the outside latch is stuck on by 2 sided tape but if I remember it did not need to come off , but I didn't figure that out untill I had removed it .
One other note I picked mine up from the GM dealer , don't know if a auto parts store would have them ?
