Return the in ground syystem and buy an electric fence charger. If u already have 4" square fencing then just string a few strands of electric wire to keep the dogs in. 2 acres is nothing for a beagle. You can have 200 hundred acres and they will roam. Its what they do.

I actually have a hot box from years ago. I didn't like using it because I kept finding animals killed by it - birds and possums and so on. I have it put up in the barn loft - but maybe your right. Maybe it would work better - and maybe also my husband could get it up quicker. I need to do something before I have a nervous breakdown over these silly pups. I wouldn't mind them running because they always do come back home - but the cars are so dangerous - and neighbors can be a problem. And they're so quick! Even when I think I am supervising them, turn my head and there off and gone.

I think a 10 x 10 or 10 x 20 kennel in your yard is what was meant. In my opinion hunting dogs need to be penned up or chained except when hunting. jmo.

I see. Yes, I have looked at the ones at Tractor Supply. That would keep them in if we put pavers down it so they don't dig under. It may come to that, but I think I'd rather sell them than kennel them if that is what I'd have to do. Keep in mind I don't hunt or even know anyone who does. I just like hound dogs (and bird dogs and some terriers) and wanted some companion animals in the yard that might make smaller varments to uncomfortable to want to hang around. Certain challenges where anticipated, but I didn't expect that at full size they'd be able to walk through the fencing like little ghost dogs.

Keep in mind IF you sell them they'll probably end up in a kennel anyway. You sound like someone that cares greatly for their animals. Maybe keeping them kenneled in you yard where you can let them out when you can be with them is a better solution than selling them to someone that may toss them into a 3 x 3 kennel only to throw food & water at them through the door. If you kennel them then yes they will be couped up a certain amount of time each day but a nice kennel is not a jail cell. You could still give plenty of room to play & let them out as much as possible. They are yours & you feed them so the ultimate decision is yours. Just wanted to let you know that not everyone who buys beagles, or any dog for that matter, is all about the dogs. It would be very easy for a pair of non-hunting beagles registered to hunting bloodlines to end up on the bad end of a puppy mill. Just saying if you do sell, please do be careful.

Oh yes - I know! It is always a worry. The puppy mill thing is taken off the table because I had them both neutered. I knew this would detract from their potential cash value, but felt it was important to do as I didn't intend to breed - and it's not like Beagles are rare - even from good lines. This way they won't be off after a bitch in heat 5 miles away somewhere. One of the greater risk when re-homeing is animal hoarders. They know how to sound so good on the phone, but conditions in their homes are appalling. And the vivisection laboratories. They like to get beagles when they can. But they won't pay much, so this is why I'd Never do Free to good home or sell cheeply.

A friend of our is coming by to help me get this shock fence up and we'll see if it works. If it doesn't, I probably will by a tall kennel and just brace myself for the husband's irritated grumping about how much my 125.00 beagles have cost him. Or, I might sell them - but if I do I will be careful ;-)
