I know I am going to measure dogs according to the example NKC gave me. That is their rule. I can't go by what AKC or NBQCD or whatever says their standard is at a NKC sanctioned hunt. I will measure the dogs to the best of my ability just as I judge them to the best of my ability. If you don't like your dog measured out or scratched for rule infractions, stay home and save us both a headache. I don't look forward to measuring all the dogs, but when we had UKC club we measured each dog to be under 15" with no problem. I don't see where dropping a stand on the withers will be any longer to do than that.
The rules are rules. We are already starting to beat down breed inspectors the same as we have judges for years. I don't know how much other breed inspectors get paid, but I do it to help my club and help the hunters run the hunt. ARHA has given us a clear example of how dogs are to be measured just as how they are to be judged. As long as we all follow the rules, all of these other things will work out as well. To say your dog got measured out unfair is like saying your dog got minused unfairly. We all see things a little different when it comes to what is ours. If you are running a dog that pushes the sticks, realize that a dog's height can be measured differently on different days. My height at doctor's offices have differed by an inch. I don't know if it was equipment, posture, weather (old age related), or the doctor. We will all use the stands they want, measure in the spot they want, and get the actual measurement just as they want or not play their game.

blitzen4 wrote:Wow , 10 pages on measuring dogs at hunts. I wished that the size of a dog at a hunt mattered to me as much as it does to some of you but life has just not been that easy for me as of late . We buried a 19 year old sportsman yesterday the lord called him home after a 6 month battle with cancer 12 months before that the lord called another friend of ours home from a battle with cancer. I just got out of the hospital after having 2 spinal surgerys in 8 days. I wished that all I had to do was to whine about the size of dogs at hunts, because if thats all that bothered me I have to say that I was pretty blessed. To tell the truth despite all that has transpired in my life over the last 12 months i know I am blessed and thank the lord for all he has done for me.

Maybe I have been doing this too long, but I believe if you can't show up and have fun no matter how your day goes, you should just stay home. When you come to my club, I hope you have good running, and fair judging, but most of all, I hope you have a good time.

What more can you say, if you're not having fun stay home there are certainly worse things going on in the world than someone wanting to fellowship with other beaglers and run their hounds in the wild. Oh I should also say that I hate to lose but as long as we had rabbits to run and fair judging, I'm a happy camper and greatful for those that can and do put in their free time to organize run these fun hunts.

i think they need to enforce bread inspecters to know how to measure as well! thats the issue, ive seen several dogs measure from 13.5 to 15 and more at defrant hunts! thats what has most stirred up about being measured is inconsistancy!

Ha!Ha!...... like greyhounds that's a sight chasing fool of a rabbit dog (right there) Ha!Ha! ...... I just play by the rules .......

if theres a 15 to 17 in class made wouldnt it only be fair to have a 13in class? 13 in hounds is doing great in lp and their giving up 2in legally to these 15in dogs! its silly that ppl doesnt see that there is no advantage!!!!!
