How many of you can actually say that you have had a dog killed by coyotes? Vote please, even of you have no opinion because by doing so you will give us some statistical ground work.

I had one attacked by coyotes once, but I got there in time to scare them away. I'm pretty sure she would have been dead if it didn't happen so close to me. I was there within seconds and she was still tore up pretty bad.

Oct. first I had 3 or 4 of them chasing my big male beagle. To hear it you would have thought he was getting killed. Somehow he got away without a scratch. One of the Allen boys showed me a female walker with cuts and gouges in her flank that he said was done by coyotes while treed last fall.

I've been running hounds for over 50 years , and can honestly say I've never had any problem with yotes. In fact, in all that time I've only seen one while in field with the dogs, and they were chasing him, he wasn't chasing them. With that said, it is always on my mind to be alert for them while running, just from the information that has come from this board.

I had the best bitch that I have ever owned killed by coyotes a few years back and my uncle had two bitches killed last spring by coyotes. We have had several that got cut up by yotes but managed to get away from them. Once the dogs that have been attacked by a coyote smell a coyote now they tuck their tails and head back to us.

Last spring I had a six months old pup killed. She was running about two hundred yards from me while I was standing in my backyard. A couple of weeks later I had another killed across the road from my house about 400 yards away. I found the skull and collar from the second one. I had a bitch get attacked by a coyote a few years ago. It was late evening and she was running a rabbit, then had a check. She sounded as if she had solved the check but seemed to be barking differently. Soon she quit and came back to the house. It was almost dark when I put her in her kennel and wasn't concerned. It was a couple of days later that I noticed a cut on one hip.

Been running and had them get in the middle of the pack and the smallest dog out of the pack chased them away but ended up with a battle wound on his back leg!! I hate them things and love seeing the pics with a bullet hole in them!!!

I had a make that was ultimately killed by yotes. It took about 3 months. I had him go through 3 rounds of antibiotics, but the wounds kept coming back. Vet would flush his wounds out, start another round of antibiotics. One day I came home and he was dead. Never made a full recovery. They got a nasty bite, that's for sure!

I have had 2 beagles and a vizsla killed by coyotes and think I probably had 1 German shorthair pointer killed by coyotes, that disappeared after getting out of his kennel.
I have had 2 shorthairs get wounds from coyotes. The male named Sliver, got torn open from just under his chin to his chest. The wound looked terrible. The Vet left it open and surprisingly the wound healed fine.
I have had coyotes come in on my beagles 2 other times and heard horrible noises, but saw no injuries on the dogs.
All the attacks were in the Spring or early Summer.

Ive witnessed about 700 coyotes killed by dogs, but never the other way around. If you guys have that bad of a problem with them get a few big hounds. Chasing coyotes with hounds is a great time!! So you could kill two birds with one stone. I ran coyote hounds for 10 years we killed close to 1200 in those 10 years. Probably 700 were killed by the dogs the rest were shot. Good luck.
