Judges who know hounds and the rules, is the key to it all.
I personaly like the idea that you can recieve +10 pts for holding the line with forward progress ,when the front runnen dog losses the track. I have seen Mid-West SPO dogs hold the track, because other dogs couldnt, its kinda like a nascar with bad tracktion, and your dog has better tires. sometimes its the nose ability ,and not the foot speed when it comes to holding a line with forward progress, better then pack mates.
Im looking forward to attending a PP trial sometime. I just hope the judges know the rule book ,after all who wants to go to a ball game, with a Ref who dont know the rules.

They are great if they would go by the rule book.I really enjoyed going to pp trials about 4yrs ago when I started.I went with the intention of running
my dogs, eating and listening to others lie about how good there dogs were.I have a very hard hitting hound hound which I admit was a little rough at times. But he was no rougher than the champions I was seeing.
He won several trials and was picked up every now and then.About 2 yrs.
ago I seen a huge shift in what these judges wanted to see.And I believe
they threw the rulebook out the window. After all you wouldn't want to rile
up the guys that have supposibly true pp hounds.I had a friend that judged for awhile and he definetly was dissapointed when he got behind closed doors.I quit going about 2 yrs. ago .Why would I want to go when my dog would start getting picked up every hunt.He didn't change and neither did the rules. There was a agenda and that's that!Like Randy I did enjoy most pp men and women. And I miss the conversation and fellowship we used to share.I have shared in competition with ws randy also and a fine gentlemen he is.I was on a cast 1 time and he accidently
clamed my dogs check an apoligized and told the judge who awarded the check to my dog.I have been attending a couple of lp trials but for the most part I just run around my own area'sI do enjoy trialing and when
I feel that I have the right attitude I will attend a pp trial again someday.
Maybe my dog will be ready to hunt there speed when he is about 10.

Lamarr......So did you guys have a good time at Ashland and how did your dogs fit into PP?

Brian, How you been doing? Thanks for the kind words. I always enjoyed running dogs and being fair with EVERYONE. Winning never really meant much to me.....unless my dog deserved it and earned it. I scratched dogs that had casts won, simply because they did not deserve it. I always figured if I had to cheat the man and his dog...I didnt beat the man and his dog.

Take care everyone,
Randy

Everyone was very nice, but there just not my style of dog.My dog is one of the most conservitive dogs ive seen run little pack, and he still was not what they were looking for. They are just not the style that I like, but nobody said they had to be,If thats what they like then thats cool by me .
