2/9/2012 Excellent day in Barrow County, GA Tailgate Full

Post by Skint' Back Kennels »

Took our 3 pups and 4 older dogs, only the 2nd time the pups have actually been gun hunted over and they done awesome. Turned the dogs out at 9:30 about 1/2 a mile from the house and it was almost non stop running till we quit, only me and deddy went and killed 3 bucks and 7 cottontails by 1:30. They jumped a buck rabbit right out of the truck, joker was sitting in the open hardwoods in a little brush pile, they burnt him up through the open woods he made a semi circle back and headed into the thick hedges along the river and ran up the side of the river about 200 yards and vanished, he musta crossed the river. I killed 7 of the total myself, one was a kicker rabbit. The dogs was burning it up coming at me, I looked and seen the rabbit running so I shot and the dogs turned and went strait on up, bout 10 minutes later the one they was running came right at me and I rolled him , the Good Lord defiantly put me in the right place at the right time today, only bad thing is I had to tote all 10 rabbits back to the truck which was a good 1/2 mile lol. The dogs ran 11 total and lost 2. I seen something I never thought in a millions years I'd see too, they jumped a cottontail in a brush pile, that joker ran straight out in the swamp about 10 yards turned and ran up the swamp about 50 yards and ran up the hill strait at me I hit him about 3 inches behind the head and he rolled 5 foot forward, he was running so fast. (pic. 1& 2)

Nice day! One question, the pic with the rabbit split up the back, what happened there? Also is Barrow County where Winder (maybe spelled Windor) is located. Have some in-laws in Winder (or Windor) but wasn't sure if Barrow was the county or not. Either way, looked like good fun.

Yea Cojax, these are definitely the our best pack since I've been hunting 16 years...The full blooded patch's get a lil wild sometimes on cottontails cause their too fast and like to swing, but that's why I've pretty well broke these with the TRI TRONICS and running them with my older dogs. The other ones are half patch and still a good medium fast, can speed up or slow down depending on how good the scenting conditions are.

Crow, thanks...the tore up rabbit pic was just proving that it was a cottontail, he was a little to close to the 20 gauge when I shot, had to lead him like a duck, Yea Winder is the main city in Barrow County, I'm about 8 miles outside of Winder
