New rabbit gun

Post by matt c »

I am in the market for a new rabbit gun this off season. I am looking at getting a 20 ga. semi auto. I am wanting something very light in a semi auto I hear that weatherby makes some light shotguns but have never shot or held one. I was wondering if you all had any suggestions or comments on what you shoot and why? Right now I shoot a 12 ga. 3 1/2 that I use for duck hunting but it is to much and has trouble with 2 3/4 shells.

Contender. You'll never carry a long gun again.

Al 48 are super light, but the Benelli M2 in 20 g with 26 inch barrel in synthetic is a TANK! Shoots well and it cleans up even easier!! Like carrying a durable stick around!! LOL. Good luck.

I agree with Tundra and Mr. Jim!!!! Have a Benelli Montefeltro 20 and it is light in the hand but was heavy on the wallet. I would also check out the Beretta 3901 Youth. All that said......I have killed 95% of my bunnies with a 1187 youth.

I love the Bennelli M 2, 20 guage its awesome. I have a Benelli Legacy in 28 guage...... It's so light it's ridiculous but it's just too darn pretty to take into the briars. Once they make it in a synthetic or camo it will be amazing.

If you have 900 to spend. The new Winchester sx3 is by far the nicest gun I've shot In a while. Also very light and weight it balanced through the gun real nice. Feels great.

depending on what your budget is you cant go wrong with a benelli but i carried my super black eagle 2 a few times last year and im not fond of scratching the tar out of it.. so i strictly use it for a predator and turkey gun... after my special field was stolen last year i found a better setup.. i bought an 1187 sportsman and ordered a 21in vent rib barrel from midway usa(only place you can get them) and put on it.. awesome little rabbit gun. lightweight, comes up great and the best part is i dont have to worry about abusing it or putting it through the brush bc its synthetic stock!!!!

40 years I been caring this Ithaca 20ga. Put one new gas seal ring in it all this time. It's 5 1/2lbs, don't rust and fits this old bones just fine. Of all the guns, this the one I grab out the door without a thought given...
With guns, I'm like some people with hounds, waste alot of money Only to find out you had the best already in your kennel. I've come to realize, I only really needed one good gun after all...

You'd probably have to buy a used one since they quit building it, but the Franchi 620 with 24" barrel is in my opinion the ultimate rabbit gun.

I picked up a Remington 1187 20ga camo for 589.00 at Walmart for my nephew. It shoots really good it's lighter and was not as expensive as others. He loves it and he can carry it all day, he is a small 13 y/o.

Friend of mine uses a mossberg semi auto 20 ga, Light weight, low recoil, recycles 2 3/4" low brass as well as high brass shot-shells, also excepts 3", Sling ready
He is handicapped and only has very little use of his left arm/hand, He loves this gun and also kills a lot of rabbits with it, This will be my next rabbit gun, Easy on the pocket book also
