Re: what do you look for when choosing a pup?
When I picked out my first beagle, I got to choose from two litters of about 6-8 pups each. I new I wanted a male so all the males were put down together. I begain picking each up to get a good look at them and see how they reacted to being picked up by me. I wanted one that was active but laid back and would be good with people. Every third or fourth one I picked up turned out to be the same pup. When I would put him down away from me he kept coming back. I guess you could say he ended up picking me.

Similar to what LPB said, but with little pieces of hot dogs. My dad has been using that same method since the 70's when his grandpa showed him. We have had success with it. But just like everyone else has said, it starts with homework watching dogs run, studying pedigrees. Go to guys who are known for having good dogs. To me the proof is in the pudding so to speak. I like a nice pedigree, but momma and daddy better be able to back that pedigree up. talk to guys who have bought dogs from the man you plan on getting the pups from. But whenever someone buys a pup from me. I tell them, mom and dad didn't make what they are by sitting in a kennel. They get ran and ran a lot. I have learned more times then not, you get what you put in.
