Less than two years after emerging from bankruptcy, General Motors Co. has regained its spot as the world’s largest global seller of automobiles.
GM said its global sales rose 7.6% to 9 million vehicles in 2011.
Chevrolet, its flagship brand, sold nearly 4.8 million, a global sales record, and more than many entire auto companies, including Nissan, Honda and the Chrysler-Fiat concern.

Germany’s Volkswagen Group, which sells the VW and Audi brands in the U.S., was the second-largest seller of vehicles worldwide with 2011 global sales rising 14.3% to 8.2 million vehicles.
Toyota Motor Corp. won’t release its final numbers until next week, but looks to be third. It previously said it expects 2011 sales to be about 7.9 million vehicles, down about 6% from 2010.
Toyota was hurt this year by a global slowdown in its ability to make vehicles because of part shortages resulting from the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The automaker is likely to rebound this year, as its supply problems are largely in the past and it has a host of new models. Colin Couchman, an analyst for IHS Automotive, expects Toyota’s global sales to reach about 8.6 million this year, enough to regain second place.
He said VW won’t have any gain this year and could fall back slightly because of the economic turmoil caused by the Eurozone debt crisis.
“VW will be hard-pushed to eke out further gains for 2012,” he said, but it won’t be as vulnerable as Fiat, Renault and other European brands hurt by the lagging economy in the region, because VW’s core market is Germany, which is “not expected to fall back as much as some European markets.”
Volkswagen also voiced a cautious outlook.
“A very challenging year lies ahead,” said Christian Klingler, the automaker’s group board member for sales. “The risks on European markets in particular will multiply in 2012.”
South Korean corporate siblings Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. saw their combined sales rise 14.6% to 6.5 million vehicles in 2011. Its gains could be more modest this year because the brands are bumping up against manufacturing constraints, especially in the U.S. market where the South Koreans have rapidly increased market share in recent years.
Ford Motor Co. sold an estimated 5.3 million vehicles last year, a 6.9% gain, according to IHS.
Couchman said he believes GM’s sales, which include the cars sold by its joint venture partners in China, will continue to grow this year despite the problems in Europe that are expected to hurt sales of its Opel division.
GM’s two largest markets last year were China, where GM and its partners sold more than 2.5 million vehicles, a 8.3% increase from the prior year, and the U.S, where GM also sold 2.5 million, a 13% gain.
Some analysts look at the Renalut-Nissan alliance as a single automaker that would have placed fourth with global sales of 6.9 million vehicles last year, a 9.4% gain, according to IHS. They work together developing cars through an alliance that includes cross-ownership of each other’s shares.
I wonder how many CHINESE jobs this partnership created...because it sure didn't translate into AMERICAN jobs...sorta like the new deal that BRAZIL got to build planes for the US MILITARY over a US COMPANY...disgraceful.

Romney's solution to the Bush outsourcing of the American Auto Industry , was indeed ,to eliminate 300,000 middle class American workers and let it go under. What I am not clear on is, did Romney go to the Chinese to borrow money in order to form Bain Capital , before or after he made these comments?
Mitt 'Let Detroit Go Bankrupt' Romney:
by Jed LewisonFollow
Remember Mitt Romney's plan for Detroit? To "let it go bankrupt."
Mitt Romney, still refusing to directly address questions about his record at Bain, tries to refocus the conversation on President Obama:
"In the general election, I'll be pointing out that the president took the reins of General Motors and Chrysler, closed factories, closed dealerships, laid off thousands and thousands of workers. He did it to try to save the business," Romney said on CBS's "This Morning."
At least Romney acknowledges that President Obama was trying—successfully—to save the American auto industry. But he'd probably like people to forget his proposal for Detroit: to let it go bankrupt.
Fortunately, President Obama didn't follow Mitt Romney's recommendation. But that hasn't stopped Romney from trying to say that what President Obama did with the auto industry is exactly the same thing he did at Bain:
"We also had the occasion to do things that are tough to try to save a business," Romney said. "We started a number of businesses, invested in many others and, overall, created tens of thousands of jobs."
Of course, if Mitt Romney says he did the same thing at Bain as President Obama has done as president, doesn't that contradict Romney's argument that Obama is a European-style socialist who hates America? Presumably, Romney doesn't think he ran Bain like an America-hating European-style socialist ... so by comparing Obama's approach to Detroit to his approach to Bain, isn't he basically saying President Obama has what it takes to be a CEO?
My point here isn't to take what Romney says seriously; it's to illustrate the absurdity of his argument by taking it to its logical conclusion.
The real problem with Romney's analogy is that while everybody knows that President Obama's goal was to save the auto industry and protect as many jobs as possible, Mitt Romney's goal was to make as much money as possible for himself and his investors. By itself, that is not an indictment of Romney; the question that people are asking is whether Romney profited from the failure of companies. Did he put good jobs at risk by leveraging companies to the hilt, making them less stable? Romney suggests that the only way he could make money is if the companies he invested in succeeded, but the record shows he was able to make millions even when companies failed.
Whether or not that sort of vulture capitalism is good or bad is a question President Obama would be happy to debate, but Mitt Romney is the guy who put the issue front and center. The entire rationale for his candidacy is that he knows how to create jobs, but the more we learn about Bain, the truth appears to be that what Mitt Romney really knows is how to make money. And that's really not a skill people are looking for when it comes to the presidency.
It's time for Mitt Romney to quit dodging these questions to address them head-on.

Tell me Big Mike how many jobs did Clinton outsource with Nafta. How many has Kerry outsourced with hienz. How many has Gore outsourced with global warming. How many has Obama outsourced with energy and automotive. You 2 are clowns, You Big Mike post that left media garbage that is always refutable just like blaiming Heineman for not doing the pipeline. Guess what I saw an interview with Heineman where he said the alternate route was already approved and the only thing stopping the pipeline was Obama, maybe you need to some more reliable sources. The only failures on this forum are the 2 of you and your failure and chief.

BILL CLINTON CREATED MORE JOB'S ,THAN HALF,THE REPBLICAN PRESIDENT'S COMBINED,,THEN WHEN EVERY THING IS GOING GOOD ,AMERICA GOES AND ,SHOOT'S IT'S SELF IN THE FOOT AND ,PUT'S A REUBLICAN,IN LIKE THEY DID WITH BUSH ,AND TODAY'S ECONOMY IS WHAT HAPPEN'S ,,
PROVES THE OLD SAYING IS OFTEN RIGHT ----THE WORSE YOU TREAT SOMEONE THE MORE THEY LIKE IT ,AND,REPUBLICN'S ,SURE DO TREAT AMERICAN'S BAD.
The Clinton Presidency: A Historic Era of Progress and Prosperity
Longest economic expansion in American history
The President’s strategy of fiscal discipline, open foreign markets and investments in the American people helped create the conditions for a record 115 months of economic expansion. Our economy has grown at an average of 4 percent per year since 1993.
More than 22 million new jobs
More than 22 million jobs were created in less than eight years -- the most ever under a single administration, and more than were created in the previous twelve years.
Highest homeownership in American history
A strong economy and fiscal discipline kept interest rates low, making it possible for more families to buy homes. The homeownership rate increased from 64.2 percent in 1992 to 67. 7 percent, the highest rate ever.
Lowest unemployment in 30 years
Unemployment dropped from more than 7 percent in 1993 to just 4.0 percent in November 2000. Unemployment for African Americans and Hispanics fell to the lowest rates on record, and the rate for women is the lowest in more than 40 years.
Raised education standards, increased school choice, and doubled education and training investment
Since 1992, reading and math scores have increased for 4th, 8th, and 12th graders, math SAT scores are at a 30-year high, the number of charter schools has grown from 1 to more than 2,000, forty-nine states have put in place standards in core subjects and federal investment in education and training has doubled.
Largest expansion of college opportunity since the GI Bill
President Clinton and Vice President Gore have nearly doubled financial aid for students by increasing Pell Grants to the largest award ever, expanding Federal Work-Study to allow 1 million students to work their way through college, and by creating new tax credits and scholarships such as Lifetime Learning tax credits and the HOPE scholarship. At the same time, taxpayers have saved $18 billion due to the decline in student loan defaults, increased collections and savings from the direct student loan program.
Connected 95 percent of schools to the Internet
President Clinton and Vice President Gore’s new commitment to education technology, including the E-Rate and a 3,000 percent increase in educational technology funding, increased the percentage of schools connected to the Internet from 35 percent in 1994 to 95 percent in 1999.
Lowest crime rate in 26 years
Because of President Clinton’s comprehensive anti-crime strategy of tough penalties, more police, and smart prevention, as well as common sense gun safety laws, the overall crime rate declined for 8 consecutive years, the longest continuous drop on record, and is at the lowest level since 1973.

All that garbage Rufus posted could have been summed up in TWO WORDS...if you want the actual reason that ANYTHING good came from the Clinton administration read closely.....
NEWT GINGRICH
If it werent for Newt and a REPUBLICAN CONGRESS you wouldn't have seen much more than sex scandals come from Clinton...Newt pushed legislation reforming welfare and tax cuts, then DRAGGED Clinton to sign them...the Republicans swept into control of Congress in 1994 and overturned 40 years of Democrat carnage...thats why you saw things get accomplished...
Its not up for interpretation Rufus, its a FACT...Clinton had very little to do with it, other than using a PEN to SIGN HIS NAME.

Why are the same people who constantly bash Pine Mt for blaming bush and not adressing the issue, Referring to the Clinton administration when Big Mikes post was clearly about Mitt Romney vs. Obama. It sounds alot like a political debate listen to the question and if you don't have a good answer rattle off something to try and confuse people and get the subject changed. Bottom line- Is Mitt Romney about himself or America's best interest? I believe that is what Big Mike was trying to get to the bottom of.
Re: ANOTHER REPUBLICAN FAILURE
...probably because when Rufus began the thread it was about the so called success of GM, then Big Mike interjected the "outsourcing" favored by Mitt Romney...it was a natural progressing from outsourcing to the KING of all outsourcing, Bill Clinton and NAFTA...Robbie F. wrote:Why are the same people who constantly bash Pine Mt for blaming bush and not adressing the issue, Referring to the Clinton administration
Geez, that didnt seem to difficult to follow, its all there in black and white.
As for why I mentioned Bill Clinton in this thread, read this and you will see why...
There, you see?? As far as my response is concerned I was merely replying to HIS Clinton reference...Pine Mt Beagles wrote:BILL CLINTON CREATED MORE JOB'S ,THAN HALF,THE REPBLICAN PRESIDENT'S COMBINED,,

Re: ANOTHER REPUBLICAN FAILURE
So Robbie you didn't see anything in Big Mikes post about reaching back beyond Romney, maybe you should try reading it again. I believe it was Bushes outsourcing of the auto industry. And why is it you leftist are so willing to try and smear republicans while you dodge measurable accountability with Obama and Obamas sorted past.

Hey all I am saying is after Mikes first post Rabbithound started the next one out saying "Tell me Big Mike how many jobs did Clinton outsource to Nafta?" I was just sayin you all are constantly bashing people for getting off topic but when someone with your views does it it is ok. Wasn't really tryin to get you all worked up was just tryin to get you to see that maybe you are not always right and you may possess some of the same faults as a Satanic Leftist who is out to get America!

Robbie again tell me how I got off topic. Did Big Mike not say that Bush outsourced the auto industry.
Why is it none of you Obama-ites can show any of us any measurable improvements that Obama has accomplished since he was elected Nov. 2008 with this economy yet you obviously feel he should get another term. I wonder how many dogs you guys would keep four more years that are hurting your pack rather than getting anything positive accomplished. If I am wrong when I post something, PROVE ME WRONG!!!!!!!!!
