A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I will help you understand! It was filmed in California enough said.

Some people get bored watching traditional brace dogs. Some people get downright disgusted watching little pack swing dogs give up 20' of line in the name of a 15 second check. While others just want to throw up when they see a large pack train wreck. You can't tell guys with fast hounds that a medium speed gun dog can bring rabbits around just as fast, and you can't tell a guy that runs medium speed dogs that there are actually fast dogs out there with great line control.
I guess there are so many different styles of dogs because there are so many different styles of "us". Run the style you like and let others run the style they like.
The dog in the middle was mine I train him in the den while I sit in the easy chair it dont get any better than that. His name is flash gordon fireball comet. I only run him after a big feed in the house so he want set the rug on fire burning up the track. also I never have to holler to get him in which saves that sore throat from screaming at the top of your lungs. He is a great dog and friend so dont be to hard on him he is kinda sensitive and I dont want to slow him down any thanks yall for looking.
Well said Buckeye Blues. One mans junk is another mans treasure. I look back over the years at how my own "taste" has changed over the years. I used to look for fast running dogs and now favor dogs like Mr. Carders that were mentioned before in this thread, and Im only 32 yrs old. By the time I'm too crippled and old to keep up, who knows what I will feed. I still can't help and wonder if these dogs were actually running a hot grasshopper track. Or a snail trail
My favorite move is when both dogs stay right on the track and the one behind is a little faster and goes under the front dog lifting it off the ground. Its a plus for both and fun to see. Now, that is staying on the track power to brag about and I'll bet none of our dogs have it.
Its a get together of folks of all ages teaching children the outdoors and not drugs that love Beagles and being together competing by the rules of that trial.
That is exactly what we all do when we compete with each other in whatever format and folks that compete in other trial formats can't understand why ya''s dogs run like they do. All trialers want to win and want a dog that is the closest to perfect in running as the trial rules as possible whichever trial format we choose to compete in.
All of us are no different from these nice Beaglers! They, like all the other trialer in all the various trial formats don't like your dogs anymore than you like theirs.
Remember, this is the trials your AKC Beagles came from before they were culled for getting too fast and over running the track!!!!!
Thats true Juhn,I seen the same thing at a trial. The dog just pick him up.You know we all be surprise at how many beagles are not used to chase rabbits.I see alot of beagles that comes and run in my pens. After I see what I see.I would say the same thing. Some one help me understand.
I agree John. Its works both ways.At least there not out there making meth.
If i were a youngster watching this, with my A.D.D. I would be bored out of mind and doing drugs to make it enjoyable..
I don't get how line control became more important than hunt, foot, brains, and every other trait for these people. I mean for real, the whole purpose of these animals were to provide food for hunter.. especially the early beagle(ish) type dogs.
Even for the first clubs where hare hunting was involved, the hounds "NEARLY ALWAYS" caught the hare... Although I would seriously love to see a pack running a hare that run so close together you could throw a blanket over them. That would take money, extreme dedication, a ton of culling and lots of hounds to reproduce today..
I do find it interesting that its even genetically possible to engineer a dog to do that... There was a post on here a year ago that gave an AMAZING description of how these hounds came to be and how the breed was almost lost to the hunter. but I can't find it.
God isn't real, Beer is good and people are crazy, there I fixed it.

I see plenty wrong with it. And I'm not afraid to say it. I dont believe in telling anyone how to hunt to each is own. Having said that....there are plenty of different styles of dogs I dont try to raise I could still have fun hunting with. This....I cant even .......I've got nothing to say but anyone who could possibly enjoy watching a dog open 20 times and not move a foot is not of sound mind. Thats just frustrating to watch.
The politically correct answer was oh well as long as they enjoy it. We all know thats BS. Thats so far from the idea of improving the breed its not even funny. Those dogs lack so much of what it takes to be a real hound you get....well 20 barks in a foot over a 5 minute run? Just rediculous IMO. I'm sure there will be a few who dislike my comments but oh well. I see no good in raising a dog like that.
I've heard plenty of argument about medium speed dogs vs fast dogs. Cold nosed vs hot nosed. While I have my preferences I atleast understood the points being made about those I didnt even agree with. Where in any of this can you see anything that would make you think these are good rabbit dogs? Just disgusting is what it is to me.
Take your kids huntin and you wont have to hunt for your kids.

WHY Would ANYONE try to Dictate to ANYBODY Else WHAT they SHOULD and SHOULD not Like or breed??? I personally KNOW a couple older fellas that breed brace hounds and have been doing so Since Both of them became Disabled!! One is a viet nam Vet Who was looking for some companionship and a good dog for his lifestyle he has both legs gone below the knee landmine in da nang in 72 he lives in a Small house in a Suburb of the Portland area With a small yard Both of his hounds are his best friends and i guarantee ya you harm one of em your Done!! the other is a older gentleman in his 70s who was thrown from a horse while judging a field trial in the early 70s breaking his back he gets around with a walker and all three of his hounds are his best friends!! here is the thing when they are not in a trial they can flat get up and move!!!! But have been bred and trained for SENT if you have never been to one of these trials seen how they are run or better yet go and judge one before you decide WHO should be allowed to OWN or Breed hounds. One of these fellas Rejects!! Culls!! ya might say was where we got our Start yup A brace trial reject to fast and to much desire to Run the rabbit started Crewse-N-Beagles...RIP Rosie..here is another one for ya these fellas sell hounds that are helping to control illegal Contraband!! Drugs!! Foods!!! Explosives!!! For airports all over the country for thousands of dollars!!(Can you say that??) Just as a lot of the Show Folks breed Dogs that will never get to see a rabbit Dont mean they are bad just Not WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE!!!
....Do not judge lest you be judged...
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
